I was confused. I thought the queen, the useless leader of the kingdom, was suppost to be here.
Useless: she doesn't do anything.
She doesn't help the kingdom or do anything for the people, but, she's not doing anything bad either. The kingdom hasn't improved nor worsened during her reign, the people have just been fending for themselves. The only time the people have ever seen royalty was when the guards were scaping the kingdom for Athena.
I'm not surprised.
I stood silently and confused, fiddling with my golden necklace awkwardly. "Right this way ma'am." A tall fae with ash gray and brown wings walks up to me, wearing a black suit.
"Where's the queen?" I ask, taking a step away from him.
"She'll be here momentarily," he walks behind a seat at the table. I walk towards it as he pushes the chair back for me and I take a seat.
He pushes my chair in then pours cold water into one of the cups in front of me.
Can I trust the beverages they give me? What if she wants to poison me?
I don't touch the glass cup, instead I fiddle with my necklace and watch as he walks out to room to what looks like a kitchen. Then two tall double doors on the other side of the room open,
and the queen stands in the center.
Her dark skin glows under the candlelight while wearing a long silver dress with engraved diamonds on the upper area that excentuaded her figure. The same patterns on her cap that draped over her shoulders and glide across the floor.
"Athena." She smiles at me.
I stand up, pushing my chair back slightly and bow towards her.
I didn't know what else to do.
"Queen Bruna."Another staff walks up to her seat and pushes it back for her to sit. He fills her glass with wine and she sits perfectly poised.
"I've been wanting to meet with you for some time now." She picks up her glass and swirls it in her hand before taking a sip.
How do I respond to that? Hurrah
"Ever since your little, outburst. You've sure made yourself known, throughout the kingdom."
I only awkwardly smile and nod. "Where are you from, Athena?"
"It's Theodosia."
"Theodosia, that's a lovely name."
"Thank you, I'm from The Golden City."
"Golden, that's quite the distance isn't it?"
"I guess it is," I tap on my nails anxiously.
"So, you spent you're entire life at Golden, you haven't, moved or traveled?"
"Um, no ma'am. Born and raised."
"Mmh," she mumbles. "How did you get into fighting?"
"Well... it was a little while after Tiara, my sister and I lost our mother-"
"Your mother?" She interupts. "What was she like? Tell me about her."
My mother. Adoptive.
I never met my biological mother. Never seen her. Heard of her. My mother and sister know nothing of her.
