Y/N'S POV

I felt like a small animal being hunted. I hated not being able to see my enemies, but I could definitely sense people here. But when I looked around dark corners, no one was there. When I was certain someone was watching me, no one was.

Elaine kept whirling around wildly like she was aware of the people too. That was a bit strange for someone who hasn't been in life-threatening situations many times. I had the feeling that she was able to sense them on her own.

Proving my suspicion, she stopped and spun slowly in a full circle. "People are hiding everywhere."

"How do you know?" Lucy questioned the young girl.

"I just do,"

As we moved, we peered through the cracks of the boarded-up windows. I could just barely make out shapes in the darkness that looked eerily like humans.

As we neared the tower, Eustace turned to us anxiously, "Yeah, it looks like no one's in so do you think we should head back?"

Elaine scoffed and turned away from the boy, walking with Caspian to the doors of the bell tower. I stopped next to Edmund and turned to face Eustace.

"Why don't you come here and guard... something," Edmund called out to him.

"Ah, yes." Eustace scrambled towards us. "Good idea, cousin. Very um... logical!"

I rolled my eyes and turned towards the doors again. Ed rubbed his temples as he walked with me. We worked on the lock on the door as Caspian gave Eustace a dagger, which he took with shaking hands.

"I've got it. I've got it." he practically shouted. "Don't worry."

That made me more worried. I cast one last glance at the quivering boy before stepping inside the dark building. Lucy and I walked on either side of Elaine while Edmund and Caspian surrounded us, all of us weary. Only Edmund's torch lit the way.

"Uh, I'm ready to go when you are!" Eustace called from outside.

I ignored him and took in the interior of the building. It was frighteningly tall with massive metal bells that hung from the ceiling. Huge statues stood against the wall holding up unlit torches. A podium stood in the center of the room, covered in papers and a large book.

As Edmund shone the light onto the book, a long list of scratched out names appeared out of the darkness. Lucy bent over the pages, "Who are all these people?"

"Why have their names been crossed out?" I wondered aloud.

"It looks like some kind of fee," Lucy pointed to the numbers on the other side of the names.

"Slave traders," Caspian gasped.

A scream erupted from beside me and I turned to see Elaine pointing at the ceiling. I looked up quickly and brought my pipes to my lips. A dozen men dropped from the ceiling with swords pointed at us.

"Look out!" Caspian shot an arrow from his crossbow past my head, knocking down a man still on his rope.

"Get behind me, Elaine!" I pushed the girl towards the podium and faced the three men that had advanced towards us.

Blowing hard into my pipes, I summoned two vines out of the dirt ground and wrapped them around two of the men, lifting them into the air. The third recovered from his shock quickly and ran towards me with a battle cry, his sword aimed at my head.

This time, I played a smooth and peaceful song on my pipes while I dodged his strikes. I needed to draw him away from Elaine. Tendrils of light shot from the pipes and danced across his clothes. In their wake, ripples of fire spread across them. The man screamed in terror and ran out of the building, no doubt trying to find some water.
