EDMUND'S POV
I turned around, my jaw almost immediately dropping when I saw the massive wave in front of us. Thank Aslan it didn't move. The wave stayed in one place, but the water that made up the wave was constantly moving. It only rose, never fell, but when the water reached the top of the wave it recirculated to start at the bottom again.
Once our boat hit the sand in front of the wave, we hopped off. I was glad we had changed out of our battle-wear, this heat would not have done me any favors in that armor. Now, each of us wore linen shirts and loose pants and the girls had their hair down, letting it flow in the wind.
Just over the top of the wave, I could just barely make out the outlines of luscious mountains and cliffs. Y/n walked up beside me, her mouth hanging open in awe. I chuckled and laced my fingers in hers as we walked, Elaine running ahead to touch the wall of water. The seven of us walked in a line, expecting something to happen.
"Aslan," Eustace said.
Lucy whirled around, facing the mighty lion. He smiled proudly, "Welcome, children. You have done well. Very well indeed."
He pattered softly across the sand to step between us and the wave. "You have come far, and now your journey is at its end."
"Is this your country?" Lucy smiled excitedly.
"No, my country lies beyond."
"Is my father in your country?" Caspian quietly asked.
"You can only find that out for yourself," Aslan said. "But you should know that if you continue, there is no return."
Caspian considered this for a moment before moving forward slowly, wading into the shallow part of the wave. Reaching his hand out, he touched the blue wave hesitantly. The water parted around his fingers before he paused and stepped back, turning to us. For a moment, I thought he was going to leave.
"You're not going?" Y/n questioned.
Small tears welled up in his eyes and he blinked them away quickly. "I can't imagine my father would be very proud that I gave up what he died for. I spent too long wanting what was taken from me and not what was given."
"I was given a kingdom. A people." He turned to Aslan, "I promise to be a better King."
"You already are," Aslan assured, the ocean wind gently flowing through his mane. He turned to us, "Children?"
I looked over the wave for a moment, contemplating going over it to Aslan's country. There were no doubt thousands of adventures to go on in there. But what about in England? What about my family? It wouldn't be right to leave them with no explanation. It was entirely selfish. I realized that now, but it was hard to accept.
I sighed, "I think perhaps it's time we went home, actually,"
My family whirled around to face me. Lucy looked very confused, "But I thought you loved it here."
"I do," I admitted. It was hard for me to consider leaving, "But I love home and our family as well. They need us."
"B- But what about Elaine?" Y/n looked down at the young girl. "She's Narnian, she belongs here."
"Don't worry, she will return. One day." Aslan stepped in front of the young girl. "She has her own destiny to fulfill."
"Will we be there with her?" Y/n questioned.
"I do not know,"
We were quiet, considering the lion's words. A small cough broke the silence, nearly making me jump. I looked down at Reepicheep who scampered over to Aslan.
