EDMUND'S POV
I quickly ran to the side of the boat, looking over into the railing and into the dark depths.
Y/n ran up beside me to look over the edge, "What is it?"
On cue, the only two rocks that were visible began to move, sinking below the surface. My heart dropped and my knuckles turned white as I gripped the railing. The boat lurched sideways and I had to catch Y/n so that she didn't fall backward. Lucy wasn't so lucky and fell against the opposite railing.
"Lucy!" Y/n ran to the girl and helped her up, "Are you alright?"
"I'm fine, what was that?"
We looked over the side again, watching as a massive slithering form rolled through the water. The old man stepped away slowly, "It's too late! It's too late!"
"It's gone under the boat, it's gone under the boat!" one man yelled.
I turned, horrified when I saw the giant serpent that rose from the water with a great shriek. Its head was the most horrible thing I had ever seen. Rows of sharp teeth and piercing red eyes leered at us from the dark. Most of its body was still underwater, but judging by the size of the head, the body of the snake was massive.
"What's happening?!" the one voice I did not want to hear shrieked from the trapdoor.
"Elaine!" I ran to her, "We told you to stay inside!"
"I'm sick of staying inside, let me help!" she tugged on my sleeve.
"No, it's too dangerous,"
"It's always dangerous," she shot back, pushing past me and walking out onto the rocking deck. "I'll be fine. Besides, you and Mum can protect me if I need it."
I sighed, turning to Y/n as she stared with wide eyes at the two of us from across the ship. I flung my hands up in exasperation, knowing I couldn't change the little girl's mind. She got that from her mother. I grabbed her hand and led her over to Y/n where she watched the serpent.
"Elaine? Gael?" Lucy looked past me and I whirled around. Elaine's best friend stood there looking mildly terrified.
"Her father is going to kill us if she gets hurt," I groaned under my breath. A strained chuckle escaped Y/n's lips.
The serpent shrieked again and I stepped in front of the little girls protectively as it came closer. I unsheathed my sword and held it up at the giant snake, the other crew members aiming their crossbows. Before it came any closer, a stream of fire streaked across its face as Eustace swooped down. The dragon latched onto the sea serpent's head as it swung around with a roar. The thrashing monsters shook the ship before the serpent shook once more, flinging Eustace off.
Eustace quickly recovered, flying back around the ship for another attack. He didn't get to though, as the serpent's jaws snapped onto him before diving below the water. Elaine rushed to the other side of the boat, "Eustace!"
They emerged again with a great splash and the snake quickly flung Eustace against a rock with a sickening crunch. My poor cousin shakily lifted his head to face the advancing monster, blowing a long stream of fire in its face before it could come any further. The serpent howled, swinging its head around in pain before diving underwater to douse the flames.
"Out, creature!" Lord Rhoop pushed past me and threw his sword at Eustace, where it embedded itself in his side.
"No!" Caspian shouted, "The sword! The sword!"
"Eustace!" Lucy screamed as he flew away in pain, "No, come back!"
"We're all doomed! Doomed!" Lord Rhoop cried, "Turn this ship about!"
