Saturday morning Draco awoke in his dorm to the sound of Zabini, Nott, Crabbe and Goyle snickering over something.
"God damn, are you kidding? That is ridiculous," Zabini said, his eyes glued to the window. Draco rolled over to see what they were watching - in horror realizing that Melanie and Ginny Weasley had decided to go for an outdoor jog around the grounds, to all of the boys' delight. They weren't wrong - Melanie looked unreal, with her hair tied on her head, shorts grazing at the top of her thigh, plain black sports bra on her creamy skin. Draco's mouth felt dry. He couldn't tear his eyes away, but also felt nauseous at the thought of Nott drooling over Melanie. He jumped out of bed. Zabini turned to him with a sly grin.
"Morning Draco! I assume you saw your new plaything showing off outside. She is really something - look at that body, I mean if I were you, I would -"
"Shut it Zabini," Draco said tersely. Zabini smirked.
"Oh, that bothered you! Are you claiming dibs? I feel like you should spread the wealth."
"I said shut it," Draco said, feeling more ill with every passing moment. Thankfully, the UK weather blessed him, and it started to rain. He conjured two towels up, quickly got dressed and darted outside with a red face, listening to his friends laugh at him. He walked through the locker room, in order to have plausible deniability, and quickly found the girls stretching outside. Melanie looked even more breathtaking up close. She was pink and the rain was running down her face - she looked like an angel. As he approached, he realized he hadn't even thought about the main obstacle here - Ginny Weasley. Her eyes narrowed as he walked over.
"What are you doing Malfoy? Buzz off." She said, eyes flashing.
"I don't mean to intrude - I was just about to get some extra practice in when it started raining. I spotted you both out here and thought you might want some towels," he said, trying to keep his voice level and his eyes on Melanie's face. He waved his wand. "Warm towels."
"I'm suspicious, are these poisoned? What exactly is going on here?" Ginny asked, before spotting the looks flying between Melanie and Draco. "Oh, god. Well, that's a choice. Melanie, I'm going to head back inside. I am assuming you're staying here?"
"Um yeah, I'll catch up with you in a few Ginny!" Melanie said quickly. Ginny rolled her eyes and jogged inside. Draco wrapped the towel around Melanie's shoulders and she smiled.
"Here, let's get out of the rain," he offered, and they walked to the edge of the locker room, and stood underneath an overhang.
"Thanks for this - that was really thoughtful," Melanie said. "Though I'm not sure I believe you were about to practice, given you're smart enough to tell when it's going to rain." Draco shrugged.
"I may have been woken up by my dorm mates drooling over you," he admitted, averting his eyes.
"A little jealous?" she asked, raising her eyebrow. She was bolder today - a week at Hogwarts was making her come out of her shell.
"Maybe a little," he said, matching her boldness and staring into her eyes. This time she was the first one to look away. As is typical with England, the rain stopped as soon as it began. "It seems like the day is clearing up - how about we both get dressed and then I take you for your aerial tour, as promised?"
"I would very much like to cash in my rain check," she responded. "Meet you back here in an hour?"
"See you then, Mel," he said, walking away.
"Mel - that's new," she replied.
"It suits you," he shouted before ducking inside.
Freshly showered and no longer starving, and with a few tricks up his sleeve, Draco returned to the Quidditch locker room exit to find Melanie already waiting for him.
