Draco woke up the next morning with Melanie in his arms, and a clear head. His whole body ached and he was starving, but he was at peace. Melanie was still asleep, so he quietly slid out of bed, threw on the hideous Weasley sweater that Molly had made for him, and went to try to find some food left in the kitchens. He found the Golden Trio downstairs, alone.
"Nice sweater, Malfoy," Ron said. Draco grimaced.
"Why's it so itchy? I don't understand," he said, as Ron laughed.
"They're always itchy. Get used to it. What are you doing up so early?"
"I don't think I've eaten in about 24 hours - Mel is still asleep, so I was going to see if I could find something in the kitchens."
"You were going to cook it?" Hermione asked. "We remember the pie." He rolled his eyes.
"I think I can manage a couple of scrambled eggs, Granger."
"That's a good idea, Malfoy. I'll come with you," Harry said. The other two stayed seated while they walked through the destroyed castle. They found the kitchens intact, with refrigerators full of food. While Draco did his best to scramble a few eggs and make some coffee for Melanie, Harry toasted a few pieces of bread very unevenly with his wand.
"Now that looks like rubbish. You'd think the elder wand could do better," Draco said, and Harry burst out laughing.
"You're actually pretty funny."
"I'd like to think so," Draco said, with a slight sneer, though he was secretly pleased.
"Actually though Malfoy... I wanted to ask if there was anything I could do to repay you for what you've done over the past year. I know it hasn't been easy," Harry said, looking at him.
"I like to think this was my penance for everything I've done wrong. A clean slate is more than enough," he said, pouring coffee into two mugs, and handing one to Harry. "For Ginny... I assume?" he said, raising an eyebrow. Harry said nothing, but blushed slightly.
"Seriously though - if there's anything you'd want - anything I could help you with..." he said, before Draco stopped him.
"Actually - wait, yes, Potter. There is one thing you could help me with," Draco said. While the rest of the food cooked, Draco walked through an idea with Harry. By the end, he was grinning.
"I think I can manage that," Harry said.
"Good morning, love," Draco said, placing a dish of food down on the nightstand.
"Do I smell coffee?" she asked, groaning a bit as she sat up. "Ouch."
"That bad?" She shrugged, but he knew she was probably in a good amount of pain. She'd taken quite a beating the day before. "Well, yes - I've brought you some coffee, and some eggs." She raised her eyebrows.
"Did you make the eggs?"
"Why is everyone acting like I'm actively trying to poison you? Yes, I made the eggs." She laughed and pulled him down into bed next to her.
"Okay, they're not bad. That may have been a little piece of shell," she said, teasing him.
"So, what now?" he asked.
"What do you mean?"
"Well... it's over. And as of right now, I'm pretty sure we have no plans for the rest of our lives. So what now?" She smiled.
