We're Here

Hours of never-ending yellow lines, trees, grass, and farms finally came to an end as we passed through North Carolina and approached South Carolina. We were officially 30 minutes away from our brand new home. "I can't wait to get there and get moved in. I'm ready to start our new life together." Lindsey held my hand and kissed the back of it. "I can't wait neither...You hungry?" I asked as I saw 'Cookouts' restaurant ahead of us up the road. "Hell yeah, what kind of question is that?" We both laughed. She's always hungry, I don't even know why I asked.

After grabbing a bite to eat, we proceeded to our new home. "This is it..." I said eagerly, holding my milkshake out the window and inhaling the fresh air. We drove up our long driveway and behind a whole group of trees sat our beautiful, huge grey house. It was even more beautiful than the virtual tour we saw on the realtor's website the listing was on.

"Oh my God...." Lindsey said, throwing her hamburger back into the paper bag. We parked in front of our home and we got out instantly. We didn't even take anything out the car, as we were too excited to personally check the entire place out. I took the key out of the lockbox and opened the thick brown wooden door. The ceilings were huge. The floors were shiny hardwood and smelled of fresh lemons. Everything was nice, new and neat. Our bedroom was lovely and it had the bed frame we included in our cost inside already so we could just plop our mattresses right on top with our comforters.

"This place is sooo lit! I can't believe it's ours." Lindsey said, trying too hold back tears. I grabbed her waist from behind and kissed her on her neck and her cheek. "Of course it's ours. We've worked hard for this and we deserved this. I told you we were going to break generational curses together. Now let's go get our things from the truck and see what time the movers will be here."

The movers arrived around 6am. They pulled up in a big truck with the words "Speedy Movers" on it. They weren't lying about their name, because we had everything in its designated room by 9am sharp. I tipped them both $50 each. I placed our box spring and mattress on the bed frame and hung up our curtains and moved our dressers in place while Lindsey was downstairs in the kitchen putting up our glass dishes. I told her to make the place as cute as she wanted it, as long as it wasn't suffocating with pink and purples.

Our home had three bedrooms upstairs, a guest bedroom downstairs and two extra rooms in the basement. Three bathrooms, and a huge kitchen, dining room, a huge living room with a fire place and our front and back yards were huge as well. We also had an attic that was easy to get inside, and it had the potential to be an extra big room if we needed it to be. I joined Lindsey in the kitchen and snuck up on her from behind as she was looking out of the window above the sink.

She was wiping off glass dishes while looking outside. I placed my hands on her shoulders and started to gently massage her neck. She let out a deep breath. "That feels sooo good." She said while leaning her neck to the side. I kissed it then turned her around to kiss her on her lips. "I think it's time to have that conversation about baby planning now." I said to her with an evil smirk. "You're too much." She laughed and said at the same time.

We went upstairs to our new bedroom. I made it super nice in with all of the cute new stuff we bought from Home Goods back in Indiana. I got her reading area together with her plush pillows and cute chair, and I hung up our bed lights around the headboard. Our big fluffy black rug covered the entire hardwood floor that was left in the middle of the room. "How the hell you put this room together so quick?!" She said walking around the room with her mouth open in awe. "I had a tiny bit of energy left from that double espresso coffee you gave me yesterday." We chuckled.

"Do you have a little bit left to use on me?" She winked and plopped down on the king-sized bed. "Hell yeah!" I took my shirt off and pulled hers off in a flash. I kissed on her all over her beautiful, caramel brown skin.

Just as we were about to start foreplay, the door bell rang

Just as we were about to start foreplay, the door bell rang.

"SHIT!" I yelled out while slamming my hand on the bed. "The the hell could that be?" I murmured, putting my Ohio State tee back on. That's the school I graduated from. "I dunno, if you woulda put up the security cameras first we would've known without having to get up!" Lindsey said sarcastically. "Ugh." I walked down the stairs to the front door. No one was there, but there was a box on the porch right in front of the door. "To the Monroe family." It said on top of the box. I looked around and I saw a car leaving the far end of our driveway and sped up the street. "What the fuuu-"

"Baaaabe, who was thaaaat?" Lindsey yelled from upstairs. I carried the box up to show her so we could open it. I shook it a bit and it sounded heavy, but it wasn't that big to carry. "I don't know. Someone dropped this off and I saw a car scurt off in the distance." I replied. "That's weird as hell. I wonder what's inside?" I looked at her and tried to decide how to handle opening this, because it could be anything inside. I took a deep breath. "How about we go outside to the backyard and open it?"

We were out in the middle of our yard and I had a a pair of scissors so I could open the box and use it as protection in case it was something crazy inside. I slowly opened it and I saw a huge, rock-like shell with a note. "What the hell, it's a turtle...." I yelled. "It's a tortoise!" Lindsey added. "It looks like the one I use to have years ago. His name was Henry. Oooh! Let's name him Henry!!" She jumped up and down in excitement and made her way to the box to grab the tortoise. "Now wait a damn minute, hold on, who gave us a damn tortoise?" I said, grabbing the card that was inside the box.

"I've been trying to call you guys. Congratulations on your move! I hope this new step in life brings you both blessings and awesomeness. I hope you enjoy your new pet tortoise as a lovely gift from me. Love, Rebecca, your Realtor."

"She gave us a tortoise as a moving gift? That's nuts." I said while taking him out the box. He looked at me and slowly crawled to the patch of tall grass that hasn't been cut like the others have and started chomping on it. "Well, now we know what else we're doing today. Going to the pet sore and getting him a habitat and some food!" Lindsey was so happy. And if she's happy, I'm happy.

"Let's take him inside."
