There was something about waking up early to the sound of an alarm that just triggered my fight or flight.
I wasn't really sure why I had set it in the first place considering it was a Saturday and the long week had come to an end.
My new job here in the city has been a learning process. I can't seem to quite grasp the idea of working 9-5 everyday in a little office for the rest of my life. If it were up to me - which it's not, I'd be running around the world, traveling and seeking new beginnings.
But it wasn't up to me. Fate brought me here to this apartment in the city, with a full time job, that paid the bills and I really couldn't complain. I was fed, with a roof over my head, which was more than I had growing up.
"No" I said aloud. I couldn't go down that route today. It wasn't a time for those thoughts. I wouldn't allow myself to go backwards when all I've been doing is making progress each day at a time.
So instead, I got up made some breakfast and sat down to watch some TV.
"Amelia! Open this goddamn door!" Said a loud voice coming from behind me. My front door shaking from the fists banging on the outside.
"Would you relax Tatum! I'm coming" I grunted starting for the door. She was my best friend, but that didn't mean I couldn't hate her sometimes. This time being now. Who knocks like a mad man on the door so early on a Saturday morning?
"Girl, relax" I said while flinging the front door open.
"What could possibly be so urgent this early," I spoke while scanning her appearance. Red hair that was thrown in a messy bun, and wild eyes as if she was bursting with excitement and couldn't wait to tell me something.
"This early? Amelia it's 9:30am. That's practically noon." she rolled her eyes and moved right by me on her way to the couch. We were comfortable with one another, enough to treat each other's apartments as our own.
"You're dramatic" I puffed, shutting the door.
"Yea well, you're a fucking lame friend for not remembering today was our get away day." She pouted, now slouched on the couch. Had she always been this moody? Yea that's a dumb question. I moved to meet her int he living room after locking the door.
"I did not forget Tatum. Sorry I didn't immediately wake up and call you to rave about it." My eyes cast down to her on the couch as I picked up the remote muting the tv.
"Well, I for one am - too excited for tonight!"
She smiled and patted the seat next to her. I rolled my eyes at her and turned to sit next to her on the couch. She moved so her body was facing me and wiggled her eyebrows.
"So... you picked out an outfit like I told you to right?" She said. Her eyes heavy with accusation in knowing I hadn't.
Did she have to know me so well? Because no. I did not. And I probably wouldn't have. Partially due to the fact that I'm not an avid club goer therefore; I do not have the desired attire she would want me to pull out. And partially because I might have forgotten the big plans today. But she doesn't need to know that.
"No." I smiled nice and wide.
"But I know that's why you're here." She rolled her eyes and got up grabbing my forearm in the process. Here we go.
"You seriously need to get out more. You're always hiding away in this apartment reading or doing online research. Give yourself a break." She exclaims while pulling me into my room. My closet sat by my bed in the corner, which is exactly where she pulled me to.
