  That's it.

You were up all night thinking. Finally, your mind strayed away from Josh long enough to think about him. You saw how he was acting ever since you met Josh, something is up.

That's right: you're referring to Carson.

Ever since you met Josh, Carson's been staring you down. Burning a hole in your head. Shooting daggers at you. You couldn't help but notice; you weren't that oblivious. Your hands shaking, you picked up the phone.

Y/D/N

carson, we need to talk.

It took him a moment to respond.

Typically, you'd send a "HAHAHAHAHAHAHA," or "LMFAO," but you didn't. You left him on read and slowly placed your phone on the bedside table. You were still shaking. You felt your eyes fall as you took a nap.

~timeskip :)~

When you woke up, it was near dusk. You got ready and drove to the beach, ready to meet up with Carson. When you got there, it looked like about half an hour before dusk. However Carson was already there, and he looked like he'd been there. He was mindlessly scrolling through his phone, constantly shifting weight to either of his feet. He looked up from his phone and caught your eyes, then instantly smiled. He rushed over to you and hugged you tightly.

"Y/N!!!" He nearly yelled. Why was he so excited to see you? You literally spoke to eachother yesterday.

"Carson!!!" You returned the enthusiasm, but it was obvious it was fake. Carson noticed. He didn't want to ask about it, though; he thought you'd bring it up later. He couldn't be more right. "C'mon, lets find a place to sit at." You smiled as you grabbed a towel and led him to an area near the water but far enough to not get wet. Neither of you brought swimsuits.

"So, what was it you wanted to tell me?" Carson asked. At first he thought it was good news, but after hearing your nearly monotone voice, he thought something bad happened.

"Well," You breathed in a shaky breath, then let it out twice as shakily. Your entire body felt like it wanted to run into the sun. "I don't want to tell you something. More so ask you something." You were staring at your fingers, but finally got the courage to make eye contact. "Carson,"

  "Yes?"

  "Do you... like me?"

Carson's face turned into pure shock as a red flourished across his face. "N-no?" He laughed, but it was more of an "I want to not feel awkward" laugh. You sighed and shook your head.

"Carson, you can tell me." You stared at him intently, never breaking eye contact. "I've seen the way you stare at me and Josh. Are you... jealous?" Yes, you completely stole this from Mason. But the more you thought of it, the more it made sense. Carson was jealous.

  Well, so you thought.

Because as soon as you asked him that, his face fell. Silence lingered for a moment, just a moment, and then he spoke. He intended for words to come out, but instead a muffled squeak came out. It was difficult for him to swallow. His eyes darted across the sand as his body shook more.

"I'm-" He spoke once more, but it was a light squeak again. He was about to cry, you could just tell. The only thing you didn't know was how to console him.

"Carson, you don't have to tell me this, I'm sorry I even brought it up-"

"Yes." Carson's voice got abnormally deep as he stared at the ground. He looked up just a tiny bit and let his gaze meet you. "Yes I am jealous of you and Josh." He stared at you with glossy eyes as his lower lip trembled. "I don't- I don't think of you like... like a crush." Carson clenched his hands into fists. "You're my best friend. And I don't want to lose you."

That's when the flood gates of his eyes opened, and tears poured out.

"Y-You-You're my dearest friend, Y/N..." Carson said in between hiccups as he tried desperately to wipe his tears. It wasn't working. "J-J-Josh is gonna steal you from me... an-and..."

You wrapped him into a tight hug as he cried onto your shoulder. His hands softly lingered on your back as he continued to cry.

As he cried, he rambled about how much platonic love he had for you, and how much he feared his friends would take it away. He didn't want Josh to take away your friendship, not even Ted. Every time he said how much he loved you, you told him you loved him too. Every time he said he was scared of you going away, you reassured him that you would never ever ever leave his side. And then he stopped, and pulled away from your hug.

"I'm sorry." Carson muttered, still wiping his tears. "I'm sorry I don't let you have friends. You're just... so amazing. You could instantly turn around and leave me behind because you're so awesome."

"Carson, I'd never do that. You're the only reason I'm awesome in the first place. I'd be lost without you." You exchanged smiles as you felt a weight lift off your shoulders. "We should go, but if you ever feel like you're not good enough for me, let me know."

  "Why?"

"So I can shower you with love until you feel like you're too good for me."

  "Like that'll ever happen"

  "I'm sure it will."

You picked up the towel and wrapped it up, placing it into your car. You and Carson exchanged a final smile before heading into your own cars. You drove to your hotel as the sun set behind you. You turned on the radio as you neared your hotel. Right before you parked, you got a call. You checked the caller ID, and you see Josh's number on screen. Frantically, you swipe to "answer" and begin chatting.

His voice seems rushed and hurried. He's in a panic.
