Ever since I was little, my mom would always shelter me from the outside world. Of course I wasn't kept under lock and key everyday for 24/7, there were occasions when my mom would let me go to the store with her, go to the park, or maybe even go see a movie if I did good on a test. I was grateful for those moments, as those moments usually came very rare. But I still couldn't help but feel jealousy whenever I would look out my bedroom window and see other kids run up and down the street, playing soccer, running home from school and talking about whatever happened that day.
I envied those kids. Whenever my mom saw me staring out the window for long periods of time, I would receive the same lecture as to how the real world is "dangerous" and will "pluck me like a flower." My mom always used plucking flowers as an example as she knew how much I loved flowers. The one thing that kept me sane this whole time spent in my house was tending to the garden in our backyard. It was like a safe space for me back there. The summer was my favorite. In summer there are flowers of so many colors, the sun's rays reflecting off the miniature pond, the shade of the various fruit trees we had protected me from the radiating heat.
As time went on I began to believe what my mom said about the world. I had become terrified of being dug up like a bunch of weeds, or plucked like a flower. Yet that still didn't stop the longing inside me to know what the outside world was truly like. I had wondered if there were any other different types of flowers and trees in the outside world, what kind of plants did they have? What did they do for fun? Were the kids friendly? There were so many questions I wanted to have answered. Though I didn't expect them to be answered so soon.
When my mom had to move away to Tokyo due to work, she couldn't take me. So the only option she had left was to send me to school. This was going to be my first time going to a school, with other people! I was so excited I couldn't sleep for a whole week before orientation. But at this very moment, as I'm trying to slip on my school uniform, I regret ever wanting to go to a real school. "This uniform is so itchy... do people wear this everyday?!" I grumbled under my breath as I walked out the door to my house.
My mom gave me instructions on how to get to the school before she left, of course after giving me a long lecture to not even look at anybody and that if somebody talked to me, to just keep walking. Yet this morning there seemed to be nobody around, the air was cool and the wind slowly blew through my (h/l) hair. If there were cameras around, it would feel as if I was filming a movie. The sun was rising over the snow tipped mountains, it was a perfect scene.
I pulled out my phone and went to take a picture before a force slammed into me. "Oh my gosh!! I'm so sorry! I didn't see you there!" I slowly opened my eyes to be met with... the sun?? Or is that just the person's hair? "N-No it's ok... I shouldn't have stopped in the middle of the road to take a picture." The mysterious person offered me their hand to lift me up off the ground. I shakily took their hand and felt a quick spark run through my entire body. When I looked at his face, it seemed he had felt it as well.
"H-Hey is that Karasuno's uniform?? That's where I'm going too! My name is Hinata Shoyo! What's your name?" Hinata smiled widely, his smile was so bright it almost blinded me. "I-I'm (y/n) (l/n), nice to meet you H-Hinata.." I know my mom told me not to talk to anyone, but something told me that I could trust him. Hinata lifted me off the ground and dusted my school blazer off for me. "You're shorter than me! That's a first!" Hinata laughed triumphantly, while I just blushed in embarrassment. "I-Is that a good thing??" I slightly looked up to him, my eye level was about to his chin. "It's perfect~" Hinata grabbed his bike. "Get on, we're heading to school!" Before I even got a chance to respond Hinata grabbed me by the hand and lifted me onto his bike, taking off down the hill.
