I finally arrived at Platform 9 ¾ with Remus. He got me a trolley before helping me load my luggage onto it. It was really nice to see the bright red train and bustling students and family after a long year. Remus cleared his throat beside me, catching my attention. I knew that face. It was time for him to leave.
"Well, that's all of it. I better get running. Take care of yourself, okay? Owl me if anything happens or if you just want to talk. I hope you have your cloak and your teaching supplies. Oh and if you meet Harry and something goes wrong, but it won't, but just in case, you can just ..."
I interrupted his cautious sermon laughing, "Remus, don't worry, I have everything. You sound more worried than I do! And yes I will owl you for anything and everything because I'm going to miss you! I can't wait to see you again!"
"I know, I know. I'm just going to miss you too," He answered. He pulled me into a tight hug, placing a soft kiss on my head. "Take care."
"I will! Oh and Remus? Go home and rest, you look extremely tired," I instructed as we pulled away.
He shoved his hands into his pockets, giving me a rather nonchalant shrug. "I will try to but I have to find a job and ... maybe later, I suppose."
"Nope, no excuses. I'm worried about your health. Plus, now that I'm going back to Hogwarts, I can't pester you," I contradicted gently.
Remus was a werewolf. I felt bad for him because he was forced into it and now, here he was, suffering so much because of it. Every time he would transform he would go somewhere alone and usually came back hurt and tired. After his cycles I'd usually be the one to care for him but now I couldn't. He was my best friend; I cared.
"Hm, that's actually a rather good thing," He answered thoughtfully, peering up as if in deep thought.
"Then again there are always howlers and many other ways I could get to you. Maybe send Molly over? Or I could apparate or ..." I teased back.
"Alright, alright I will, I promise!" Remus laughed. "I don't want to turn around to see a portal opening up in the middle of my house!"
"That's more like it," I giggled. I reached up, giving him a quick kiss on his cheek. "Take care, Remus."
"And you, Stacey!"
I began to roll the trolley off towards the man who handled the teacher's luggage. He wished me kindly and welcomed me back before taking my trolley off my hands. As he walked away I heard someone call, "Professor Ringe! Professor Ringe!"
I turned around to see Fred and George running towards me. They were closely followed by Percy who was yelling, "Stop embarrassing me! I'm going to be a prefect! Leave her alone! Why would she want to talk to you two?"
After him a women's voice rang through the crowd, "FRED! GEORGE!"
Mrs. Weasley chased after her twins, tugging Ginny beside her as Arthur tried to keep up with his hectic family. I laughed at the scene of the family whom I simply adored above everything else. I walked over to meet Fred, George and Percy halfway as they came to a quick halt in front of me.
"Fred and George it is nice to see you again! I can't wait to hear about all the pranks you've pulled over the summer," I wished, before turning my attention to Percy. "Hello Percy. Congratulations on becoming a prefect which I am not too surprised about at all."
The twins opened their mouth to speak but Percy beat them to it as he exclaimed, "Thank you very much! You see all the hard work -"
George rolled his eyes cutting Percy short, "Oh hush it Percy she doesn't care about your hard work. Anyway Professor, we came up with these ideas about things that make you puke ..."
As usual Fred completed his sentence, " Or something that let's you listen in on people's conversations -"
Now it was Fred's turn to be interrupted by his mom lecturing them, "Let me tell you this, you two. If I get any owl from the school about your behaviour or pranks you better ... OH MY! STACEY! Good to see you dear!"
Mrs. Weasley instantly pulled me into one of her bone crushing hugs, swaying me from side to side. As soon as she let go, Ginny threw herself into my arms. I giggled as I hugged her back just as eagerly.
"Don't worry Molly. I'll keep them in place," I reassured winking. I faced Ginny who was probably the sweetest little girl I had ever met. "Ginny, my love, a first year already? Oh you're going to love it so much at Hogwarts!"
"Ah, Stacey pleasure as well. It'll be good to have you back at Hogwarts," Arthur wished shaking my hand.
"Hello Arthur, thank you so much!" I wished. I peered around the family looking for Harry and Ron. My stomach was already exploding with nerves. "Where's Ron and Harry?"
"You know Harry?" Fred questioned eagerly.
Molly was well aware of the entire situation, especially why I was denied custody of Harry. I didn't want to answer Fred's question out of fear that I may say something that I shouldn't say yet. Molly seemed to sense that I didn't want to be bombarded because she instantly came to my rescue.
"Of course she knows Harry. Now run along boys and go find a place to sit. Ginny dear you can go with Professor Ringe," She chimed in. Molly caught my hand securely, staring into my eyes with a warm, motherly grin on her face. "Good luck this year, Stacey. Everything will work out perfectly."
Mr. Weasley gave me a reassuring smile before him and his wife said their goodbyes to their kids. When they were finished I walked with Ginny into the train.
"So Ginny, are you excited?" I asked
"Definitely! I can hardly wait!" She squealed.
I found her a room with some friendly looking first years before I made my way to the teacher's compartment. There were kind welcomes from everybody and small talk about the summer quickly sparked. After I had made my way through everyone, I slipped past into the second compartment. No one ever sat here except for Severus and I. Severus, being Severus, hated talking with people so we never sat with anyone else.
As soon as I entered into the compartment, I slid the door shut. I turned to face him smiling. He was seated right by the window as always with his wand right beside him. In a slick, monotone voice, he wished me, "Hello Stacey. I must admit that its good to have you back!"
"It is good to be back," I admitted, sitting down beside him. "How was your summer?"
"Uneventful," He replied blandly. "And yours?"
"Exciting as always. Remus kept me company along with my other friends," I explained.
Severus was there for me during my darkest times. I knew about his past secret love for Lily during Hogwarts and his deal with Dumbledore about being a double spy. So yes, we were pretty close.
"I know you don't want to be pestered with questions about Potter so you can spare me the details," He said, understanding my obvious anxiety. Potter. After all these years, even with James being dead, he hated the man.
"Harry, Severus. His name is Harry but thank you," I corrected. I leaned back into the soft seats closing my eyes. It was going to be a long ride and Severus wasn't the type to put up an intense conversation. "I'm going to be napping but wake me up if you start to feel lonely."
"Alright," He replied with a smile.
I was glad I was a person Severus would smile at. Anyone who knew Severus knew that he didn't smile. I laid my head on his shoulder as his hair brushed mine. I didn't understand why people said his hair was greasy because, well, it wasn't. It was weird how quickly the sleepiness took over me. The nightmares had me up all night. I slowly drifted off to what I hoped would be a peaceful sleep.
