Midnight again.

James prowled the streets. His crimson eyes a curse as he swaggered into a random bar. Didn't matter what place, they were all the same. People coming and going, wandering outside just to slip into problems they wouldn't have had if they'd just stayed safely home, the bastards.

His pale skin was ghostly white against his black overcoat as he shouldered the door open. It was icier than usual in New York this winter, but he couldn't slip. He was far too... light footed for that. His spiked hazel hair was also a deep contrast to his skin, but he'd learned that others knew to stay away from him. If they were lucky enough to resist, that was.

The brunette sat himself down at the bar, his face a cold brick. The bartender came over to him, looking slightly uncomfortable. Not that it bothered James. He was used to it.

"Erm... what can I get for ya, son?" he asked as his mustache twitched slightly. "Say, aren't ya out a little late for your age?"

Psh, funny joke. James's glare was enough to silence anyone, and the man snapped his hole up good and tight.

"Shot of vodka- make that two. Put something sweet in for me," he growled as he rubbed two long, white fingers against his temple. It wasn't like it was going to improve his thirst but it might prevent him from tearing apart the guy serving him. He was working on keeping his victims and attacks more... quiet.

"Y-You got it, man," the bartender choked as he shuffled away. The paler male rolled his eyes and inspected his claw-like nails as he waited impatiently for his drink.

Regular humans were all so predictable. They just go about their lives like rats, feasting upon their opportunities and leaving the stragglers to rot and be devoured by the cat. But in this case, he was the cat.

James was what humans considered a vampire. Yes, yes, oooo scary. Vampires that suck your blood because that's just what they do. Well, perhaps a long time ago, but nowadays it was still mandatory for their survival, but they were all sort of in hiding. The ability to prey on and drink human's blood had long been eradicated a while ago, so it was a struggle if there wasn't a morgue nearby.

James felt his chiseled canines with the tip of his tongue out of pure habit as the bartender- now that he had gotten a good look, his name tag read "Rupert"- shuffled back to serve him his two shots of concoctions.

The brunette slammed his money down and Rupert picked it up gingerly. He glanced back to James who had already downed his drinks. He paid no attention as he tossed the last shot glass aside and placed another order for double. Rupert frowned slightly as he came back with the drinks.

"Mind tippin'? Money's kind slim this time 'round, wouldn't be very hard for ya..."

James's eyes flickered into his own for a moment. Frustration at the sudden greed made him bristle. What was he, made of money? All these sick men wanting what was rightfully his, and this time he wasn't just brooding about his sickly wealth conditions. But seeing as he figured this was a family establishment, he slid across an extra five. Rupert smiled gingerly and accepted the bill, shoving it deep into the depths of his pocket. James sighed.

There wasn't much more to his life than this, in all reality. From the start, he had understood that no matter what he was destined to be alone forever. No woman would ever see him walking down the street and want him- that is, on a marital level. Sure he was naturally attractive to lure the vixens in, and yes he had laid each and every one of the freaks that thought they could tame him. And all of them tasted disgusting.

With bodies buried and literal skeletons shoved into the closet, James wasn't one to ever dream about relationships. In fact, a blonde had sauntered in from the soft snow and mosyed her way over to the brunette, sitting with a stool in between them as she ordered herself a drink. The way she showed off her cleavage, you'd think she thought she deserved a metal.

She was trying to meet his eyes which he showed to her for an instant, making her keenly aware that he was something dangerous. A temptation. He huffed and looked away, focusing back on his drinks. What was her problem? Weren't any of the other jerks in this dump good enough for her? Although he already knew the answer: he was a vampire. Therefore, he'd always be the pick of the litter. He was a death trap to females like this one. Literally.

"Out far from home, aren't ya?" she sleuthed in a heavy Jersey accent. James continued to drink and ignored her, planning on leaving before this blonde tried anything. He could never be seducted willingly, so that was a plus.

"Tough guy, hm? Well, ya aren't the first, won't be the last," she breathed as she slowly moved over to him, placing a manicured hand on his shoulder. "C'mon, what do ya say..."

James shrugged her hand off and stood up, tossing Rupert another twenty-five for his troubles and headed out the door, his hands shoved deep in his pockets. Not tonight... he could last another week... He wasn't in the mood to get sick again. Bad blood does something nasty to one's stomach.

"Hey, wait!" she called and scrambled after him, her desperation obvious. "I'm not finished with ya, hot stuff!"

James sighed heavily and turned around with an almost bored expression as her overly-inflated lipped face appeared close to his. He wished he could have the same temptation any other regular person could, but he was an animal, set to kill. He didn't even know what love felt like.

"What do you want..." he growled and apparently she thought that was hot as her cheeks blushed up slightly. "Don't you have a date with Garth Fisher or something?"

The blonde giggled and slowly trailed a long-nailed finger down his chest, and he caught her wrist tightly. She kept smiling until his hold started to become more painful and she struggled slightly as he didn't seem to let go.

"Get out of here, if you know what's good for you..." the vampire said lowly and glanced around. "Seriously, lady..."

He was giving her a fair warning and he released her, letting her stumble back on her high-heeled shoes. She panted slightly and huffed, flicking her hair behind her shoulder and spinning around to prance away. Good riddance.

James rolled his crimson eyes again and turned back to walk to his shadowy penthouse when he heard determined clopping coming back up to him and before he could react he was spun around and yanked into a spiteful kiss.

The natural instinct took over and he gripped her with his clawed hands, his nails sinking deep into her plush skin. She screamed and tried to pull herself away from her terrible, and final mistake, but the vampire clamped an ice-cold hand over her mouth and pulled her down into an alleyway.

"MMPH!" she desperately but James just shoved her up against the brick wall, his strength equivalent to at least five regular men.

"I warned you..." he growled and then darted forward, his teeth pushing themselves out more and punctured her neck like a tiger.

Her blood was as dirty and disgusting as the rest of them, not that he was surprised. They were all the same, these women who think they know how to handle themselves against a monster. Little did they truly know of what he could be capable of on a hungry night.

Her screams faded into a gurgling sound as he drained her of her blood, and her life. Her skin turned paper white and the moisture leaving her body made her appear as some sort of human raisin.

When he was through with her, he dropped her into the dumpster and was about to close the lid when he heard a hoarse, vile sound utter from the depth of the garbage.

"Freak..." it croaked.
