James yawned as he woke up in his bed and stretched lazily. He had slept in quite a lot. It was already 6:30! He caught sight of himself in the mirror and looked away, not wanting to meet those empty red eyes or pallid face. He sighed heavily and scratched at his spikes of hair, remembering his day with Lanna and how that was gonna be butchered at work. Another day at the office. Hooray.

After he was situated with breakfast and pulled himself into a sleek work outfit, he started on his way to his door when he got a text. He frowned, having no recollection of anyone's contacts he owned just for fun- oh, that's right. Lanna. He flicked out his phone and scanned the message with disinterest, but the information made him freeze with his cold hand on the doorknob.

"Hey, you! I hope I didn't wake you up with this message, but I made some bagels if you wanna catch a ride to work! 😘😘😘"

James blinked a couple of times and groaned slightly to himself as he heard an unfamiliar car engine roaring in the parking lot. Of course, he should've seen this one coming. The vampire shoved his phone back into his pocket and trudged his way downstairs and out into the frigid cold air. His breath fogged as he walked over the slick ice of the sidewalk and he finally caught sight of Lanna's small, tattered car. Ugh, human food was just as enjoyable as the real thing.

"Morning, James!" the ravenette exclaimed happily as he ducked extremely low to cram himself into the passenger seat uncomfortably. "Sorry about the mess, I don't usually carpool, heh... I hope you don't mind, I just thought it might be nice to see you again after our coffee date." Lanna blushed as she offered him a bagel and he took it grudgingly as he struggled to buckle himself in. Damn, how small was this sardine can? His knees were practically the same level as his nose!

"Oh no, it's fine. I walk to work every morning," the vampire grumbled and sniffed the bread with distaste. How could all the little bastards of this god-forsaken world actually like the stuff? It smelled like compost!

He sank his teeth into it hesitantly and immediately froze. Whatever was in this, it was... AMAZING!! It tasted sweet like sugar, and although the cinnamon burned he ripped out another bite savagely and downed the pastry in seconds, licking his lips afterwards. Lanna must have drugged the bagel- vampires aren't supposed to like bagels! Why did it have to be a damn bagel?!

Lanna giggled as he destroyed the bagel and started down the streets for work. "It's a family recipe," she said as she turned the corner and waited at a red light. "I'm glad to see that you seem to take a liking to SOMETHING human related."

James was still in denial and decided to change the subject. He shouldn't have allowed himself to like bagels of all things... It was embarrassing!

"I don't hate everything human related," he said stiffly and gazed out the window instead of at the ravenette. "I just have preferences. I'm sure you wouldn't like a lot of things vampire related anyways, so that's a bit of a large assumption about me."

Lanna sighed softly as she continued to drive, seemingly in thought. "I like you, and you're vampire related, aren't you?" she said with a half smile, making James nod despite himself. "I don't have anything against vampire kind, but it seems like you kind of have a grudge against us."

James crossed his arms tightly as he thankfully saw the building in view, meaning he was going to see his rose very soon. The excitement made him almost giddy, but he hid it well and brooded instead. Natasha was the endgame, she was the reason for his very existence, he could just see it! No matter the cost, he would have her! The bagel's texture reminded him of what he fantasized her skin would taste like, all sweet and soft and plush... Her body under his as he sank his teeth into her neck, just having a little snack as he made sure she knew he wasn't going to let her go...
