On Monday, Lisa was absent. So Elena sat there and was bored the whole time. She had the brilliant idea, that she could miss at least some boring minutes of Snape's lessons by going to the toilet and needing extra much time there. She raised her hand eager while Snape was in mid of a sentence. "Yes, Miss Smith?"
She smiled at him innocently and asked if she was allowed to go to the bathroom. He expected something subject-related and was annoyed about her question being the exact opposite. "For what?!"
Elena looked at him blankly. What does he mean 'For what'? Well, dumb questions get dumb answers. "To open the Chamber of Secrets, what do you think?!"
Without waiting for his permission, she got up and left the room. He was not in a position to deny that request, was he? Well, when she came back and opened the door, Snape looked at her furiously. "I did not give you my approval, Miss Smith. Five points from Slytherin!"
She sighed – if she continued losing points for her house, all of her housemates would hate her. But she could not resist making a sassy comment: "Do I get bonus points if I act like I cared?"
Some students breathed in sharply, because no one talks back at Snape and if then for sure not that often! "Another five points from Slytherin. See me after class."
Elena just rolled her eyes and her Professor continued the lesson. Boring as always.
After class, she was told, that she had detention for a whole week – she really had to bite her tongue to not make a sassy comment and earn herself more detention. When she left the classroom, Draco was waiting for her, and she was ready for a dumb remark, but to her surprise, there wasn't any.
"I wanted so apologize, Smith."
Elena looked at him, not understanding if this was a dumb joke or if he was serious. Little did she know, that Snape, his godfather, held him a lecture about how he should not treat a woman like that.
She accepted his apology and to her surprise, he asked her if she wanted to eat lunch with him.
Why shouldn't she give it a try?
And this was the beginning of a new, beautiful friendship.
That evening, she had her first detention for the week and Snape actually went easy on her. She had to write an essay about the effects of the Draught of Living Death and how to brew it, without a book of course.
While writing, she tried to make some small talk with her professor but after not even half an hour, he had enough of her attempts to talk with him. He interrupted her mid-sentence: "Repeat after me."
Confused, she looked at him and nodded, but her professor drew his attention to the essays he was correcting. "You're not saying anything, Sir?"
For a second, she thought, that she saw her grumpy teacher smiling. Well, maybe he was smiling at her expenses, because his answer was "Well, that is the point."
Elena would never admit it, but even she thought that it was funny and tried remembering that quote – it could come in handy. Still, she finished her work in silence to not annoy her teacher any further.
When she had finished her work, she handed him the paper, and he allowed her to leave. Snape was totally ready to read a harebrained essay, but to his surprise, he found a perfect one. That girl was not lying, when she told him about her past grades in Potions. When he saw, that she crossed out two of the ingredients from the book and wrote down other ones, he realized, that she changed the recipe herself. And to his surprise, it really made the potion better.
The teacher started really believing in Elena and even feeling a little proud – but he would not be Severus Snape if he praised her. So, he just marked the essay and put it to the side.
The next few days, Elena succeeded in getting her teacher involved in conversations while serving detention. Still, she was pretty sure, that her teacher hated her guts – but she did not let it bother herself. To be fair, she was not the nicest person, too. When her teacher still did not talk to her after day three of detention, she said: "Merlin, I've had better conversations with portraits!". It led to loosing five more points for her house, but to her surprise, he talked to her after that.
On Saturday, she thought that she was through with her detention. One week means a school week, so five days, doesn't it? Well, no it does not. And Elena did not find that out pleasantly.
She just finished showering, therefore she was only wearing her undergarments and a towel on her head, when she heard a knocking on the door. Boys were not allowed to the girl's dormitories, so no one really cared if they wore only underwear when opening the door. It was always a girl.
Well, not that day. She was in a good mood and hopped to the door, opened it – and looked in the face of her teacher. She gasped shocked while he made a step back. He looked at her face, and tried only to look at her face, feeling uncomfortably.
She instantly hid behind the door, only her head looked out. "Um.. Professor Snape... What are you doing here?"
Her face already turned into a deep shade of pink, it was extremely embarrassing. All the girls in the back of the dorm giggled and looked like they'd die of laughter any second. Snape cleared his throat uncomfortably and commented, that she did not appear to her detention and that it was his job as her head of house to see if everything was fine. He still had not collected himself and neither had Elena. "So... When you say a week, you really mean a week, huh?"
Normally, Snape would have lectured her about how she should show some respect and call him sir, but he still was too embarrassed. He muttered "You have 15 minutes to... change and show up at my office for your detention" and went away – and tried his best to look at everyone and everything but her.
Elena shut the door as soon as he had gone and leaned against it. The girls started laughing again, and she just hurried to put on some clothes and get herself presentable. Still being embarrassed and having a head as red as a tomato, she showed up at her detention – which was as awkward as ever.I'll be happy if you vote or leave a comment! :)
