I'm frozen for a good few seconds, before realising I'm supposed to be saying something.
"Hi", I say, trying to keep my face and voice expressionless. The smirk on Hunter's face gets wider.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Peyton", he says, putting extra emphasis on my name. At least he didn't say we'd already met. I didn't want Xavier to know I had been in a compromising position with his step brother, even if it wasn't my fault, and nothing had happened. It seemed like it would be a step backwards in our relationship if he knew and assumed things had happened when they hadn't.
I give Hunter a small venomous smile in response.
"Oh, shoot", Xavier says, checking his pockets. "I left my keys on the table. I'll be back in a second babe", he says, kissing my forehead and jogging away.
"Well", Hunter says, making me turn to look at him. "I didn't peg you as that type".
"What type?" I ask, frowning and crossing my arms.
He smirks. "A good girl".
"I'm not. Usually".
"Oh?" he muses with a raised eyebrow. "Then what are you doing with my brother?"
"Maybe I needed a change of company". I notice he'd somehow gotten closer. I don't know which of us moved, but I was standing my ground. Who was he to question who I went out with? "Why do you care anyway?"
He shrugged, leaning in so his lips were next to my ear. "Maybe I think you would be better suited to someone more..." he whispered, pausing to scrape his teeth over my earlobe ever so slightly. "...Bad".
I suppress a shiver as his teeth touch my ear, and clench my hands into fists. I refuse to back down. I've encountered his type before; cocky, using the same old move which make girls weak at the knees and beg to be fucked until they can't walk properly. Instead of playing along, I only raise an eyebrow at him when he pulls back.
His smirk shrinks a little, and he looks frustrated for a second, but quickly masks it and raises his eyebrows suggestively. Oh crap. He thinks I'm playing hard to get. Rolling my eyes, I step around him and head towards Xavier's car.
"You know you want to", he's saying, following closely behind. "My brother's too gentle and mellow, hardly spontaneous enough to keep a bad, or semi- bad even, girl interested for long. Soon you'll be dying for some fun. When that happens, give me a call". I turn to face him halfway through his spiel, and he winks with the last part.
I scoff, arms crossed under my chest. "As if."
His eyes narrow and he's about to say something when Xavier reappears. Just in time.
"Hey, sorry I took so long, I'd dropped them on the couch", he says, jogging up to us and unlocking the car.
Opening the door and quickly climbing into the passenger seat, I give Hunter a sickly sweet smile. "It was nice to meet you", I say slamming the door. "Not".
