I opened the door with my keys and saw George sitting on the couch, eating nachos and watching the re-run of FRIENDS. It was the last episode of season three where Phoebe finds out her mom isn't dead. I sat down next to him. After the episode ended George turned the TV off and turned to me.
"You were home ten minutes late and now you have no hurry to go inside your room and study." I looked at my watch, he was right it was 1: 13 pm. I reached home at 12:45. If we had come home from the other road, I would be home by 12:35. I didn't mind being home late or spending time watching TV, if it had been any other day I would be stressed that I lost plenty of my time I could have used to study but not today.
"Yeah" I said that in a so-what tone but my brother kept on nagging me.
"Did you forget final exams start from next week? You aren't the Liana I know. What happened?"
I laughed at that statement. He looked at me with shock written all over his face. Then he asked "Are you okay Ana?" with concern.
"I am fine. I just wanted to spend some time with you okay? Why would you even think that I am not fine?"
"Because my nerd sister didn't go into her room to study a week before final terminals and is apparently thinking to come to the party which I came to know from some of the sources." George said with a grin on his face.
"Yeah" I said rolling my eyes.
"So how was your day?"
"I had a long day." George raised an eyebrow at that telling me to explain. "First you were lecturing me about how I should enjoy my highschool. Then I had to climb that gate to go get hotdog and a little talk with Saed. Also-""
"Saed made you climb that gate? You aren't hurt, are you? I will kill him if you are." George asked, interrupting me his face etched with concern.
"No I am not hurt. I wouldn't be sitting still here if I was. He didn't let me climb it when we returned clearly knowing that you would kill him."
"So ok then continue what you were saying."
"Yeah, then Danielle made me do a hell lot of cartwheels, back handsprings and tumbling. But you know something; I think I enjoyed talking to you guys. I smiled and laughed more today and I liked it. How was your day?" I meant every word I said. Even though I felt like I did a week's talking in a day, it felt good.
"My day was fineee. I kinda got into trouble for not submitting a project work" I raised my eyebrows on that "which I promised to submit by the end of the exams."
"Why not submit it tomorrow?"
"I am not a study express like you Liana. Also about your fight with Danielle..." Words travel fast here especially when you are friends with your brother's friends. I knew I shouldn't have brought her up. "Yeah ok, I am so tired, going to sleep, bye"
"Of course you would ignore that topic."
I ran upstairs to my room, threw my bag at the side of my bed, changed from black pant and sky-blue plain t-shirt into a baggy shirt, which I stole from George, and Nike shorts. Then, I plopped down onto my bed.
I opened Instagram to see if anyone had posted any new post and went scrolling down. Even though I was tired, I didn't feel like sleeping. I picked up my bag from the floor and plonked all my belongings on my bed which included my books, a pencil box, calculator, lip balm and a sanitizer. I separated my books from the other mess and kept my Chemistry and World History book infront of me. I didn't like Chemistry either but found is easier than World History. So, I picked up my World History book and started reading from the last chapter as these would still be fresh in my memory.
It had already been an hour and I had only studied three pages, even which had went out of my head. I couldn't concentrate properly and looking at that book made me feel sleepy. I went to the kitchen upstairs and made a jar of lemonade. I took a glass for myself and went down to the living room where George was lying down on the couch with TV still turned on playing a sports channel.
I saw that one of his hands was clenched into a fist and was in his chest whereas another was open and falling down from the couch. There was a half-empty can of whipping cream which he must have been stuffing into his mouth. I took the can and emptied it in George's open hand. I sat on the one-sitter couch next to George's to see the whipped-cream he would splash on his face when he wakes up. Half an hour had passed and I had finished my lemonade but George hadn't woken up so I went up to my room. This time when I started studying, the lessons in my head.
I was still studying when my phone started to booming "Wannabe" by Spice Girls. I already knew it was someone from the group because of the ringtone. I mean this song really suits whoever is calling. I sang along with its lyrics.
Yo, I'll tell you what I want, what I really, really want
So tell me what you want, what you really, really want
I'll tell you what I want, what I really, really want
So tell me what you want, what you really, really want
I wanna (Hey!), I wanna (Hey!), I wanna (Hey!), I wanna (Hey!)
Ok, the call stopped maybe it wasn't so important but it rang again. Without looking at the caller id, I picked up the phone. "Hello" I said extending the word.
"Can you come to Jeff's place now?" It was James."No hello, no hi and you are asking me to come to Jeff's place for what?"
=====================================================
Is Liana the only one or do you guys also sing along the ringtone before picking up the call? What might be James calling Liana for? Do you think it might be something serious?
Keep reading guys. I love you all. Stay safe.
