I can picture him rolling eyes before replying "Hi, Liana. I really love it how you do something I say only after asking a hundred questions" with sarcasm dripping with each word.
"If you are done with that, tell me why am I asked to come?" I could hear some shuffling in the background. "He needs your help with his Chemistry's project. Come now, will you?" This time it was Jeff who spoke.
"Ok I will be there in fifteen minutes."
I hadn't cut the call yet so I could hear Jeff saying "You can't say anything straight to each other, can you?" I heard the call end.
I took out my small backpack from my closet and stuffed my mobile phone, keys and some money in it. I went downstairs to find George still sleeping. I took out the sticky-pad, which was kept in one of the drawer of the cabinet at the side of the main door. "I am at Jeffery's-Ana" I wrote and stuck it at the door of Mom's room. I went over to where George was sleeping and shook him to wake him up. He didn't even move so I removed the pillow he was sleeping in. Even though his head landed on the sofa, he woke up and started rubbing his eyes with the hand I had crammed with whipping cream, that was a hilarious scene. The shock on his face was evident which switched to a haughty smile in a second.
"I am gonna get you on this Ana."
I shrugged it off and said "I am going to Jeff's house. Bye."
I went to garage and took out my bicycle. The triads' building was pretty far than anyone else's. It would take thirty minute on foot but around ten minutes by bicycle. So I started pedalling through the street. Our house was in a serene street but the triad's building was in a busy road. The triad lived in the same building but different apartment. Jeff lived in the penthouse of the building.
It was just 5:30 but there was heavy traffic in the road so I reached their place around 5:55. I went to the elevator and pushed the button to Jeff's house. I rang the bell and the door slid open revealing Jeff in her pink pyjamas with big red hearts and without any hint of makeup. She was as shocked as I was. Jeff would never change out of her jeans and t-shirt even if she had to stay at home. The last time I saw her like this was when her cat died. She was the one who barely wore sweat-pants or baggy sweaters or didn't wear makeup. She used to say "What if earthquake hits and I would have to leave home in those trousers."
"Why are you dressed like this?" we both said at the same time. We both stared at eachother and started giggling. Then realization struck that I hadn't even bothered to change out of my home clothes before coming here.
"I had to help finish Jame's Chemistry and it was really nerve-wrecking. So, I changed into my PJs ready to go to sleep after he finishes his work. I don't think I would have enough energy left even to be changing clothes after I help him. And let me guess you didn't even think changing out of this baggy t-shirt and shorts before coming."
I nodded laughing. "You got it right. So how much of work is left?"
"Ahh...we started five minutes before calling you. We thought we could do it ourselves but gave up and called you. We called Heather and John here so that they can help but they hadn't taken chemistry so no any help at all. Haven't touched the work since then"
Jeff's house was really beautiful; long spacious room, the kitchen on the left with a large counter island, opening into a dining room, showing a large glass table. The dining room opened into the living area with a long leather settee with a coffee table. Two accent chairs used to be situated beside the fireplace, where Jame, Heather and John were sitting now scrolling through their mobile phone, with Chemistry textbook sprawled in front of them. There were three wooden doors which led to a bathroom, Mr and Mrs Singh's room and another one led to Jeff's bedroom. There was another glass room which led to a balcony; it had a spectacular view of the city.
