"Sergeant Cooper, are you familiar with Petty Officer Victor Pie?", Torres starts the interrogation. "Yes. He's on the same base as me. Why do you ask? Why did you arrest me?", asks Gunnery Sergeant Cooper. "Have you seen Petty Officer Pie today?" "No. Why do you ask that?" Now Gibbs is getting involved: "What about the last two days, Gunny?" Gibbs puts the knife, which Ellie found, on the table. Gunnery Sergeant Cooper fades. "Have you ever seen this knife before, Gunny?" ”Yeah. It's Petty Officer Pie's." "If this knife belonged to Petty Officer Pie, how did your prints get on the handle?" “He lent it to me two days ago. Why do you ask?" “We found him dead this morning. His knife was close by, his blood was on the sheath and your fingerprints on the handle. How do you explain this?" “I told you he gave me his knife the day he was murdered. So that means my fingerprints are on the handle. And I can also explain the blood: I cut myself using the knife.” Gibbs and Torres are looking at each other. "How do you know when he died?", asks Torres. "And how do you know we found your blood on the knife?", Gibbs wants to know. "You just told me all that", defends Gunnery Sergeant Cooper. "Gunny, you realize this conversation is being recorded?” As Cooper nods, Torres continues: “Then I'll tell you now that we didn't mention your blood or the day of the murder. Perhaps you'd like a lawyer after all?" "No. Why did you arrest me?" "Special Agent McGee and I told you when we arrested you: we arrested you for the murder of Petty Officer Victor Pie. And we don't even need a confession because our evidence was sufficient for the arrest.”
