Chapter 3
Looking a hot mess with a bestie in tow
Violet wearily let herself into her modest two bed roomed apartment. She smiled to herself, happy with her overall progress in life despite the bad day.
She had had some crazy dips in the last five years- nearly being excluded from school for academic reasons to graduating cum laude in her class; to falling in love with her best friend only to have him fall in love with someone else. It wall all so bittersweet.
If anyone had told her she would be where she was today she would have laughed in their faces and asked for their dealer's number.
Violet kicked her shoes off and padded barefoot on her carpet. The carpet had been an indulgent spend.
"Violet, Carpets get dirty. You're better off with Tiles," her mum had chirped with all her matronly wisdom.
Violet had rolled her eyes and continued to finger the cream coloured carpet. It felt so soft that her toes had tingled in response.
She was happy she had followed her own advice and not her mothers.
She wandered into her room and threw herself onto her queen sized bed as she stretched and wiggled her toes.
On top of her bed was a mirror. Everyone who had ever visited her room had always assumed the mirror was there for sexual reasons.
She smirked, thinking of how delightful the mirror was when she had an amore around. But mostly, she liked to look at herself when she was thinking. The mirror continued to teach her to love herself when she felt ugly, when she felt pretty, when she had disappointed herself or achieved something. The mirror was a constant reminder of who she was, a reminder to herself that she was worthy of her own love.
She gazed absent-minded at her reflection as she wondered what she would wear tonight.
Eve was right, it had been a while since she had last gone out and had some fun. Maybe this was what she needed.
She looked at her watch- 18:45pm.
Perfect, just enough time for a nap, a snack and a shower, she thought.
She sat the alarm for 19:30 pm and almost immediately fell asleep.
What felt like mere moments later, she awoke to the frantic ringing of the doorbell at 19:25pm. She felt cheated.
"Mother fudger- I had five more minutes she grumbled"
Unamused, she stomped to her front door and peered through the peep hole to see who the individual who wanted to die was.
The face on the other side of the door made her grin.
Violet quickly unfastened the chains and bolts to let her best friend in.
"EVE! I thought you said you were coming for me at 9?"
"Biiiish! I haven't seen you in so long. I thought that maybe we could get ready together," she said as she strode in confidently as though she owned the place.
In her hand was a large box of 4th street sweet red wine.
Violet laughed.
"I see you've bought us some cardboardeux?"
"Well, it's been so long since we did this. We are getting too grown for our own good. Tonight, you and I are university students again," she said
Violet walked to the kitchen to grab two large glasses. She grinned as she handed Eve one and placed her own on the counter.
