Let's keep things lowkey.

Your POV
It was the first day of school! First and last day of high school, a rather bitter sweet moment.

I rush out my house and head to school to greet all my friends.

"Erin!"
I run up to my best friend.

"Y/n!"
We catch up before I look around for, Clay.

Finally I spot him in the crowd, a big smile grows on my face as I run up to him and give him a hug.

"What's going on here?"
I hear one of his friends say.

"Remember how we promised we'd keep our relationship lowkey?"
Clay whispers and I pull away.

"Oh, I'm sorry. I thought you were someone else. Silly me,"
I give him a weak smile before I walk back to, Erin.

"Still unofficial?"
She air quotes. I sigh and nod.

Clay and I have been talking for a while but we just started dating this summer. He told me he wanted to keep it lowkey, he said it'd be less drama, but I never understood that. The whole summer was unbelievable. Too good to be true.

The school day went by and Clay didn't talk to me. I'd glance over once in while, but he'd always be talking to a friend. And this was how it was for the next months of school.

Fast forward to April.

All the girls were getting asked out to prom.

"Look! Jacob just asked me to prom!"
Erin jumped.

"Did Clay ask you yet,"

"Nope,"
I emphasize the "p".
Clay was always so great when it was just the 2 of us. But when in public, we were just strangers.

Fast forward to the week before prom.

I was sitting on my bed with Clay when he got up,

"Hey, I'm gonna go hang out with my friends, if that's ok,"

"Can I come?"

"It's a boys only kinda hang out,"
I purse my lips and nod my head.

I walk him to the door,
"Are you ever going to tell your friends about us?"
I look at him and he goes quiet,

We stand in silence,

"I'm tired of being your little secret,"
"Are you embarrassed to be dating me?"
"Or do you just.. not to be date me anymore?"
"I just want an honest answer,"
I stare at him as I bite the inside of my lip and tilt my head,

"It's not any of that. It's just I don't want people to know yet,"

I slowly nod my head, tears threatening to fall,

"I'll see you later, Clay,"
He opens the door, and turns back.
I give him a faint smile and wave.

I watch him close the door before I run to my room.

Why didn't he want people to know?
We've been dating for months.
We've been in a secret relationship for months.

Fast forward, prom.

I ignored Clay the rest of the week. But now, it was prom.

As much as I didn't want to go, I already payed for it.

Prom was at 8pm and it was 6:30pm.
I did my hair and make up and took out my dress.
My emerald green, satin dress that matches with Clay's tie.

I put it on and I'm not going to lie. I look good as fuck. I stare at myself for a few more moments when someone knocks of the door. I grab my shoes and phone and walk downstairs.

I open the door, but nobody was here? I look around, then I look down.

A corsage. And a note.
"I'll see you later tonight?"

I look around before I go back inside.

I put the corsage and note on the kitchen island.
I stare at it. What am I going to do?

At 7:50PM, I get into my car and I drive to the prom venue. Oh shit, I'm gonna be late.

I get there by 8:15PM. I walk up the opened doors and pause before I walk in.

When I walked in, I almost immediately spot, Erin.

"Hiiii! You look so good!"
I shout over the loud music,

"Thank you! Same to you, look at you,"
I thank her and look her behind,

"Where's your date?"

"He went to get a drink,"
Erin starts to talk to me, but I'm barely listening.
I look around the crowded room before my eyes land on, Clay. Damn it, he looks so good.

Clay's POV
It's already 8:10PM, and Y/n's still not here. I stare at the door and wait for her to come.

"Dude, did you see, Chloe?"
Nick says but I ignore him,

"You should go talk to her,"
Nick nudges me,

"I'll pass, you should go though,"

"Why do you keep looking at the door? All the girls are in here,"

"Not the one I want,"
I check my phone, 8:15PM. I look back up, wow.
I nervously bite my lip and smile.
She looks so fucking beautiful.
I watch as she walks over to her friend.
It felt wrong being this far from her. I should be beside her, holding her hand. But I already fucked up to the point there was no going back.

I stare at her longingly before my eyes meet hers.
She gives me a small smile and I start to walk over to her.

"You look beautiful,"
I say as I stand in front of her.

"Thank you. You look nice, I guess,"
She says with a smile.

I look down at her wrist hoping see,

"You wore it,"

"Of course, my boyfriend gave it to me,"
She rolls her eyes and I smile widely,

"Boyfriend?"
"Boyfriend!"
"You forgive me? But I was such an ass,"

"I know, but you had your reasons, I hope,"

"I love you,"
I wrap my arm around her,
"THIS IS MY GIRLFRIEND!"
I shout and kiss her.

I pull back and rest my forehead against hers.

"You're my girlfriend,"
I whisper and stare into her eyes,

"Is it finally official?"
She whispers and I push my lips against hers,

"Yes," "it's official,"
I say inbetween kisses.
