"The World Beyond the Veil"
" 'Legends that we're told, We watch them come to life. We come to life.' "
"Get me a beer, killer." He ordered gruffly. The little girl pursed her lips and darted to the fridge. But to her utter dismay, the last bottle was too high for her to reach. She pushed a stool over, but lack of lunch and dinner made her stumble. Her head smacked against the fridge opening and the beer bottle fell to the floor. Smashing against the tiles and spewing the honey colored liquid in a pool around her. A few shards of glass bit her skin but they were nothing to what came next.
He came at her. Practically bouncing on his heels as he swung around the kitchen counter to get to the child who cried silently on the floor.
"What's wrong with you, eh" He shook her, roughly by her hair and threw her against the counter. "My wife gave her life for you, and you can't do one bloody thing for me!"
"I... I—um. Ah." She hiccupped, over her pathetic sobs.
"Listen to you." He slammed the door of the fridge closed. "Guess that blubbering only means one thing." He glowered at her, reeking of nicotine. "You're good for nothing. Nothing but killing. Don't you think so, killer?"

Long, ink-black hair reaching down her waist and dark brown eyes with gold flecks stared back at Kiara with a grin tugging the corners of her mouth.
"It's Isabelle, right?" Kiara asked, screwing her eyes up, as she adjusted to the light.
"Yes, but you can call me Izzy and you must be Kiara", she said smiling. Kiara smiled back and lifted a sore hand, flinching slightly.
"My friends call me Ki; I don't have the faintest idea who you are but... I like you", Isabelle laughed and shook the grey eyed girl's hand. Kiara was in an infirmary, lying under white cotton sheets, her eyes travelled the room. What caught her eye was the symbols engraved on the ceiling and walls, strangely, looking at them made Kiara feel safe.
"I've never seen Alec and Jace so curious about two mundanes. And Alec isn't curious about anyone mundane... or distracted", Izzy said in an afterthought. Though Kiara lost her the moment she said 'two mundanes', whatever a mundane was, Kiara knew she meant her and...
