"Small Pulses"
Once they parked in the location Alec directed her to, behind the Institute they quietly made their way to the training room. Fortunately, the room, was empty, Alec drew a rune on the wall and a sliding panel of weapons appeared once again. He favoured a silver coated bow, engraved with runes and its grip wrapped in leather. Selecting a quiver of red feathered arrows, Alec took each arrow one by one and drew his stele over their shaft.
Kiara sat on a table and watched him at work, she subconsciously mapped his face: the small crease on his forehead as his eyes were narrowed and eyebrows arched in concentration. Dark strands of hair fell over his blue eyes which travelled up the arrow's shaft and Kiara was tempted to brush them away. Of all the runes that marked his skin, Kiara's attention was caught by the single rune running along his neck. Alec cleared his throat, not looking up, "You're staring." Kiara fell back to reality and fixed a straight face.
"Well, you did bring me here for no apparent reason and I'm bored." Kiara argued. Alec sighed and finished his last arrow, before walking up to her. Kiara didn't want to meet his gaze, instead she found the floor very interesting.
"I brought you here so you didn't have to be third wheeling Jace and Clary."
"Also," Kiara said with a humourless tone, "You still don't trust me."
"I do."
"Didn't seem like it back at the churchyard." Kiara finally looked up, realization dawned on Alec's face but not long enough for Kiara to relish in surprising him. Kiara's throat tightened again, Alec shuffled a little and took something out of his jacket. To Kiara's surprise, he brought out her stele and placed it in her hands. Kiara curled her fingers around its carved surface and welcomed its familiar sensation in her hand. Alec took his own one out and took her arm in his hand.
"Since we're going to be facing vampires, you'll need some new runes." Alec explained to her questioning look. Raising the stele just above her skin, so only the tip grazed her skin, he began to draw. Kiara bit her lip in discomfort, when the stele burnt her skin leaving jet black lines to form a rune. "This rune is to protect you from being encantoed."
"What does that mean?"
"It's the first step to becoming a human blood bag. Kind of like what a cobra does to a mouse right before it strikes. This will keep you safe just in case you run into a vampire."
"I thought you were going to teach me atleast a little about handling a seraph blade."
"I will," Alec answered, admiring his handiwork, "Give me your other arm." Kiara obliged, "Ow," she hissed when the second rune seared her skin. "This is for silence, so they won't hear us coming, but we can't disguise the scent of our blood from them. Once we enter the building, they'll know something's up. If our plan works, we'll buy enough time for Jace and Clary to find the mundane."
