It was never easy. Knowing that it was gone. Never coming back. Taunting me with something so close, but what I'll never have. They would always hurt, but at least the pain was bearable now. Nothing more than a yearning ache. Something that would never fade. It made me want to fully give in. To allow the program to have full control, but that wasn't an option. No matter how much I wish it.
Maybe someday, but not today.
I have a job to do.
Slowly, with a grace that only comes from years of practice, she allowed herself to drift off. Letting sleep embrace her in its loving arms once more. Her conscience fading to the back of their mind, as the program filled the empty space she had left with its presence.

As the memories faded from their mind, it began the long walk back to the door. Emptying its mind of thought and emotion as did so. Allowing their mind to become blank of everything except their objective.
It began to make the journey out of the ruins of the underground city. Leaving the record room behind. Ignoring the many doors and winding corridors along their path. Before long they reached the door that separated them from the outside world. Without pause, they proceeded to open the door and slip out. Making sure to close it behind them.
