only a billion years later update 16.1.2023
(Author's note: I'm sorry guys, I went back and read the last chapter and I realised that it might have seemed like Mitch lost the pregnancy. He didn't, he was hospitalised for fainting, as well as Hyperemesis gravidarum (extreme "morning" sickness), and dehydration (I'm sorry if I scared any of you))Mitch's POV:
I was a bit bummed to miss a day of work. Feta was obviously delighted to have me stay home. I flopped on the couch, sighing, I looked through social media for a bit, before running to the washroom to throw up a bit. As I flushed the toilet, I thought about how this was the first time since discovering I was pregnant, that Greg was not there to rub my back as I heaved the contents of my stomach into toilet. As I walked back to the couch, I caught a glimpse of myself in the full length mirror. I was paler than usual, my cheek bones protruding through my skin more, but other than that I was the same old Mitch. I turned to the side and lifted up my shirt to reveal my abdomen.
Still mostly flat. What was I expecting? I was only ten weeks pregnant. I ran my fingers over my abdomen. I thought I could feel a little protrusion, but it was probably just my imagination.I flopped back onto the couch and Feta jumped up and put his head on my lap, leaning it against my belly. I'm not sure, but something told me that Feta was aware of the little life inside me.
My phone pinged twice in rapid succession and then suddenly it was ringing wildly, while also continuing to ping. I picked it up, there were a bunch of short texts from Greg and he was calling me. I picked up
"Uh, hello? Is everyth-"
"DON'T DO IT MITCH!" Greg screamed from the other end, so loudly I dropped my phone.
Groaning, I picked it up,
"Don't do what Greg?" I asked
"Didn't you see my texts?" Greg asked genuinely,
"No Greg, you didn't give me the chance to before you called" I said a little annoyed.
"You're not about to drink coffee, right? Pregnant people can't have a lot of caffeine" Greg said worriedly.
Oh my godddd, was that what this was all about? CAFFEINE CONSUMPTION?!?!?! I was suddenly a degree more annoyed with Greg
"Greg, you made me almost deaf, then made me almost shatter my phone just to tell me to limit caffeine consumption?!?!?!" I replied,"I thought the office building was on fire, don't do that to me."
"I just wanted to make sure you aren't doing things that could harm you or the baby" Greg said, justifying.
"Well giving a pregnant person a heart attack isn't helping either" I scoffed.
"I'm okay Greg, the last time I had coffee, back at Tim Hortons, I ordered decaffeinated. Besides I'm not really into coffee these days. I haven't craved it since before we discovered this pregnancy" I said, trying to reassure Greg,
"I love you, don't discover too many elements without me." I hung up then.Ugh, speaking of which, what was that smell? It was awful. I followed my nose into the kitchen area. Feta accompanied me.
I was like a Blood hound, sniffing every inch of the kitchen area. I couldn't stay another moment in this house if I didn't get rid of that smell.
My nose inspected the microwave intensely, did Greg leave some spill in the microwave that rotted while we were in the hospital?
"Ugh, this is the third and FINAL time this happens Gregory!" I thought to myself.
Nope. I sniffed the fruit bowl, which only had some ripe bananas in it, but then again bananas do have a scent. Nope.
After 10 minutes of sniffing around, I had made no progress. By this point, Feta was lying down on the kitchen floor, whimpering.
"Ugh just give it up Mitch and come back to the couch and cuddle" he seemed to be saying.
I stood to look at the kitchen as a whole. My gaze scanned the counters. My gaze fell on the Keurig.I walked over and gave it a good sniff
*ICK!*
I almost gagged, it was the smell of coffee that's driving me crazy. The Keurig wreaked
"That's it, NO MORE COFFEE!" I said aloud, somewhat startling Feta.
I went through all the cabinets and drawers in the kitchen, throwing every K-cup and coffee bag into a paper bag.
In Canada most things need to be sorted and recycled accordingly, and my racing mind couldn't focus on that at the moment, I just needed the peace of mind that all things coffee were out of the kitchen area. I put the paper bag near the sliding door that led to the backyard.
After that workout I decided to try and relax the rest of the day, just like Greg had ordered me to.
I watched TV with Feta next to me, his head in my lap, and tried to keep my mind off of the fun I was missing at the office. That wasn't hard as I was focusing so much energy on not puking on Feta. I tried eating crackers to deal with the nausea.
