The first thing you felt was the coldness of where you were. Of course, maybe that was because you were out in the middle of the forest. The darkness was thick, like the night you'd been taken except this time you could feel it out there- a presence.
You weren't sure at first on what it was, who it was, you just knew that it was dangerous. Something to fear.
The running had started before you even registered it, feet bleeding as you ran barefoot over the sharp woodland ground. You were screaming for help, for anyone to save you. In the distance, you could hear Amelia shouting your name, sounding like it was underwater. Suddenly, your foot snagged on a branch, sending your whole body to the forest floor. You gasped, quickly trying to lift yourself up from the ground but you faltered.
The world around you was no longer the forest, but the room Tim had left you in. It was pitch black and your bed was no longer there. Instead, in its replacement was the wardrobe, the one from Amelia's home. You stared in horror at it, sitting half up on the splintered wood as the doors slowly creaked open. You tried to scream, but it felt like you couldn't get air in your lungs. Like you were trying to breathe under water or that your chest was too tight to ever let you.
A leather gloved hand grasped the edge of the door, easing it open steadily. You scrambled back a ways but something kept you rooted to the spot. Like you needed to see what it was. Like you were supposed to.
A head peered out and it was the masked man. He moved with jerking motions, like the boy named Toby the night you were almost killed. He stumbled and jerked his way towards you, Brown hair disheveled and jacket crooked and falling off his shoulders. You started weeping, trying to scramble backwards but you weren't making any progress on getting away. He reached you, crawling down into his knees and suddenly grasping your face with both hands. You screamed but it was silent, harshly trying to pull his hands away from you as he stared down into your soul. You couldn't see his eyes behind that mask of his and you knew this time he was ... wrong.
Something gave you pause as you looked deeply into the black eye sockets of the mask, watching as something squirmed behind it. As you watched you could hear it. Rustling, the sounds of eating. Your hands shook as you reached forward, an unknown fear and need to know over taking you and you grabbed the boot on of the mask. Quickly, you pulled it off.
And just like that, hundreds, no a thousand maggots came falling down onto your lap. You screamed as you stared at the writhing mass under the mask. Maggots, maggots, maggots, maggots, maggots-
You jolted awake, eyes flying open as you sat up, taking in your surroundings. It was the same room he'd locked you in last night. The same sad walls and same old wooden floors. No wardrobe....
You shook as you caught your breath, putting a hand against your chest to feel your heart beat and willing it to slow down. You were fine... granted you probably weren't exactly safe but you were alive. And it was just a nightmare... a really vivid and real one at that considering all your other ones you've had before.
The sunshine looked like it was still a fiery red coming up over the horizon, illuminating the room in an orange red glow. Slowly, you pulled the blankets off your form, walking towards the nailed shut windows to take a glimpse outside. The trees still cast a dark shadow on the earth below them, but the tops and edges of them were illuminated by the upcoming sun. You shuddered, a bit cold from your bare legs being exposed. At this, you heard the sounds of the door handle turning. You jumped a bit, whipping around as you watched the door slowly open and a head come around the edge. It was that mask and when you laid eyes on it again, you could feel those maggots writhing across your body. Falling onto your lap-
