College Makes You Do Crazy Things

It's been a couple days since Shadow got hurt. I didn't think it'd be so tiring, but was I wrong. I'm busy from early morning till maybe eleven at night. Making sure Shadow takes his meds, cooking all his meals, and going to class and work is a little hard. But the others help out when they can.

Rouge checks on Shadow while I'm in class and Silver checks on him while I'm at work. I try to text him often so he isn't always alone either.

Right now I'm in my last class of the day, nodding off a bit. I stayed up late last night finishing some work.

"So! I know this class is a bit difficult to get through by yourself so I have assigned study partners for the rest of the semester!"my professor grinned, making jazz hands. Everyone kinda just gave these half awake groans.

"Take a piece of paper, write your name on it, and hold it up against your chest. When I call out you and your partner's name, go find them!"

He started listing off names and my classmates began to meet and greet with their partners.

"(Y/n) the (species) and Matthew the Cat!"

I stood up from my seat and held my paper to my chest as I wandered around. I looked around until I saw a gray cat with icy blue eyes. His sign said 'Matt' so I figured he was it.

I walked up to him and smiled. "Um, hi. I'm (Y/n). And you're Matt...the Cat?"

He smiled, his tail swinging gently behind him. "That's me. So I guess we're partners. I'm glad he's doing this. This class was definitely gonna be the one to end me."

"Oh really? I didn't think it was too difficult. But I'll be happy to study with you,"I smiled. "Great. Smart and pretty. When are you free, Miss (Y/n)?"he asked.

I became a little flustered at his compliment so I stumbled over my words before clearing my throat. "Th-The weekend. Are Sundays good for you?"

Matthew grinned at me. "Anytime after noon, sure. I have football practice in the morning,"he said. "Okay. Shall we say...from two to four? At the library?"I asked.

"Well, what about my place?"

"W-Well, I barely know you and that's kinda..."

Matthew smacked his forehead with the palm of his hand. "Right. I'm sorry. That's kinda creepy. The library is fine."

We exchanged numbers and even sat together for the rest of class. At the end of class, he actually walked me to the library. He's a nice guy. Kinda witty and laid back. A little muscular too.

As we walked up to the entrance of the library, I could see Sonic standing there, looking down at his phone. He had a plastic bag in his free hand.

"Sonic!"I called out. He looked up and smiled at me. His smile faded slightly when he noticed Matt beside me. "Hey, what are you doing here?"I smiled as we walked up to him. He gave me a hug.

"I was just bringing you dinner. I didn't think you would've gotten anything before work,"he said, handing me the bag. "Awww, thank you! Oh, this is Matt. He's my study partner for one of my classes. Matt, this is Sonic,"I smiled.

"Your boyfriend?"Matt smiled. "Yeah, something like that. I'll pick you up after work and take you home, okay?"Sonic said, petting my head. I nodded. "Thanks for walking me, Matt. See you Sunday?"I asked. "Yeah, of course. See you then,"he smiled before walking off.

"What? You seeing other guys now?"Sonic smiled. I giggled. "No, of course not. Why would you think that?"I said. "Because you're too cute to only be talking to me, (Y/n). I saw the way he smiled at you,"he said. I rolled my eyes. "Oh, please. We just met today and we're study partners. That's all we are,"I said.

"Yeah, okay. I'll see you later,"he smiled. Sonic kissed my cheek before leaving. I walked into the library and ate before starting my shift.

Afterwards, Sonic picked me up and dropped me off at Shadow's apartment. Before I could get out the car, Sonic grabbed my hand. "Wait. Can we talk for a second?"he asked. "Oh, yeah. What's up?"I asked, settling back into my seat.

"I just wanted to know...we are exclusive, right? Like you're not talking to anyone else?"

I smiled. "Yeah. I'm not talking to anyone else. I'm only talking to you." Sonic smiled. "Good. I know we're not necessarily dating yet, but I genuinely do like you, (Y/n). I just...I like hanging out with you, but I don't want to push you into a relationship right now. You and I are usually really busy with our own lives,"he said, scratching his head.

"That's okay. I get it. I like you too and it's okay if we're not dating right now. But I'd be very happy if we did in the future,"I said, taking his hand into mine.

Sonic looked down at our hands, smiled, then looked up at me. "Would it be weird if I kissed you?"he asked. I blushed and shook my head. A blush formed on his cheeks.

Sonic leaned in and gently pressed his lips against mine. I kissed back, squeezing his hand in mine. My chest fluttered and fireworks went off in my head. I certainly didn't want to stop, but after a moment, he pulled away. He chuckled softly, looking the other way. His cheeks were dark red.

"Sorry. I'm a little embarrassed. I've been wanting to kiss you for a long time."

My face began to heat up. "I-I see." Sonic smiled brightly. "It's late. I should let you go. I'll call you, okay?"he asked.

I nodded and opened my door. "G-Good night,"I smiled. "Night, (Y/n),"Sonic smiled back. I grabbed my backpack and closed the door. He waited until I was inside Shadow's apartment to pull off.

I dropped my stuff off in the guest room before strolling into Shadow's room to see that he was still awake and sitting in bed.

"Hi. How was your day?"I asked. "Boring. Yours? You seem happy,"he said. I shrugged and smiled, rocking back and forth on my heels. "I dunnoooo. I may have...kissed Sonic,"I said. "Oh...you kissed Sonic? When?"he asked.

"Just now when he dropped me off. He said he liked me a lot and that I was the only person he was talking to. And it just happened!"

"So you guys are dating now?"

"Well...not necessarily. But we will be very VERY soon!"

Shadow chuckled. "Whatever. If you're happy, I'm happy, (Y/n)." "Thanks, Shads."

I continued to talk to Shadow while I gave him his medicine and a little snack. Then I helped him get comfortable so he could sleep.

"What? No goodnight kiss?"Shadow asked as I turned to leave. I rolled my eyes and smiled. "Sure. Didn't know you were such a baby," I said. I pecked his forehead. "Tch. What are we? Five? Gimme a kiss on my lips,"he grinned.

I giggled. "Good night, Shads." "Good night, (Y/n)."
