Trigger warning(s): strong language, intrusive/anxious thoughts
******two weeks later******
Virgil sat across from Patton, the two of them silently working on different projects. After their first interaction Patton had often sought out Virgil's company between classes, babbling on about his day while Virgil listened. Eventually Virgil got impatient with writing and passed Patton something on the corner of his notebook. The message read: Text me! Followed by a phone number. Patton quickly added the contact, adding a Purple heart next to Virgil's name. He sent a message, insuring he punched in the number correctly.
Hey, did this work?
Almost immediately he got a response.
Yes! :D
He smiled at the screen, placing his phone down and getting back to his notes. The two stayed silent for a bit, Patton occasionally glancing up at Virgil. His green eyes glowing against his pale skin, but he would always quickly look away, not wanting him to notice. His phone buzzed, pulling him back to his senses. He read the message.
Virgil💜: Your smile is really cute
He felt his heart skip a beat. He called me cute! He sat there for what felt like forever, trying to gather his scattered thoughts. He typed a quick reply as the bell sounded, closing his phone and gathering his belongings. Virgil waved, a wide smile on his face.
"Same time tomorrow?" Patton cringed, hearing his voice rise an octave. The boy nodded, turned, and left, leaving Patton alone with his thoughts.Holy shit why did I do that- Virgil couldn't bare to read Patton's reply. Not yet. God he probably freaked him out. Why the hell would you say that? You're a freak. He headed towards his next class, barely slower than a sprint. Still he couldn't keep his mind off of that smile. Soft and sweet. Like his favorite candy. What the fuck weirdo- his thoughts were cut short by someone calling to him.
"Hey Virgin!" The familiar mocking voice called from inside the classroom. Virgil sighed, placing his bag next to his seat. "Oh come on dude! I'm only joking!" Of course you are.
"Alright Roman, that's enough," thank god. Roman slumped in his seat, causing Virgil to smile slightly. In truth he liked having Roman around, that way he could get away with never talking. The class begun and he tuned out the teacher, instead letting his thoughts wander. Did he have any homework left to do? No, he did it already. What about Patton, he might need help with the math. He'd text him after class. No Patton doesn't want that. He'd rather have anyone else do it. Ask Roman. No that's stupid. Why? But- you don't know until you try. Well, here goes nothing. He scribbled a quick message in his notebook and handed it to him, anxiously waiting for a reply.
"Oh now you need my help?" His classmate smirked, stroking a hand through his tousled hair. "What's up hot topic?" Roman waited, somewhat impatiently as Virgil typed away on his phone. He explained the whole situation, meeting Patton in math class, hanging out during free blocks, even his attempt at flirting. Roman read through the whole thing, a smile slowly creeping onto his face. After what seemed like ages he finally placed the phone down. Oh god here it comes-
"I'm proud of you," what? "You stepped out of your comfort zone and took a risk with a guy you liked," Virgil nodded as Roman continued. "My best advice is to ask him." He gave a confused glance. "Ask him if he was uncomfortable, if he says yes, he knows you respect his boundaries. If he says no, there's a strong chance he likes you back." Virgil looked at him incredulously, his eyes wide. "What? I'm not that great at flirting..." Roman mumbled. The class ended without a hitch, Roman even got the two of them off the hook for not submitting a project. He waved to Roman, heading in the opposite direction towards the door. He breathed a sigh of relief, thanking the nonexistent God he didn't have math. As he left the building and headed towards the bus stop he decided to take a chance and open Patton's text.
Patton: I think you're cute too 💜
