CHAPTER 5

Next Day

ROSE'S POV

The warm sun coming through the car window wakes me up, I look to my left and see the same nurse who helped me escape.

"Rise and Shine", she said giving me a smile.

I felt uneasy about something, this feels off. I just want to see my family.

"GET DOWN", she said. I ducked. "We can't risk anybody seeing you, they'll kill both you and me", I get back up and look around.

"I'm going to protect you", she says while looking at me.

"Who exactly are you" I asked.

"Have you heard of the children's league" She asked while I replied her with a 'no'.

"Most people don't believe the camps are total bullshit because the white house keeps flaunting on TV especially the president's son, so we started the league to get you guys out of the camps. Those on the upper end of the scale The RED and The ORANGE'S are considered too dangerous..Rose, you are very very rare. Among the most powerful and the least Trusted. Those like u are killed..on sight." She says making goosebumps run up by my arms.

"What are u going to do, now" I asked her.

"If we ever get separated and you find yourself in danger--" She said while pulling out a pendant from her pocket giving it to me "--I want u to squeeze on this pendant for three seconds, it's a tracking device but only if u activate it and it only goes to me..Look Rose, u and I both know how dangerous it is out here, at some point it might be really nice to have someone looking out for you."

"Where are we going", I ask.

"We are going to meet one of my partners, your gonna be safe".She pulls up to a abandoned gas station where another car is parked and a man is cleaning his guns. He turns around and faces our car as we park.

Kate hops out of the car and runs to him and wraps her arms around his neck.I slowly get out of the car and take precautions of him.

"We did it". She says wrapping her arms around him.

"I never doubted you" he says lifting her off the ground.

"Wait where are your two" She says looking into his car for what I suppose it two more newly kids.

"I couldn't get them out" He says looking down apologetically.

"What, Sorry" She said giving him a small smile.

"But I got a lead on a Red" he says.

"Oh Rose, this is Rob"

"It's nice to meet you" he says while holding out his hand at me but I flinched back and he retreated his hand back to himself.

"We don't have a tons of time, I need u to change.. New clothes,soap,some other things and a bathroom in the station still has running water-" he said pointing to the station my focus veered of him and the station "Hey, but don't drink it okay" he says while handing me the backpack.

I take and begin walking as I stumble over a cord, Rob grabs my hand to help me as a scene flashes across my eyes, it's Rob yelling and grabbing kids as if he's trying to hurt them. I shiver as the horrifying images goes away, I look at him and pull my hand back.

"Are u okay" Kate asks. I look at both of them and just nod my head, I walk off to the bathroom and begin changing but as I'm changing I hear a rattling sound, I don't know what it could be.I look around nervously, being cautious as I turn every corner. A little girl steps out looking at food in the fridge her back faces me. She turns around and freezes as I do the same.

I didn't even see her take of her yellow glove until it was too late. She touched the back of the fridge sending lightning bolts everywhere.

When it stopped she was gone, I grabbed my bag and ran after the girl.

"HEY" I called after her as she ran to a blue van. She jumped in and closed the door.

"Please let me in, I have nowhere to go, no one to trust" I begged the little girl.
