"Looks like i'm not going out today, even i cant fly in this weather." Hinata said aloud as he came back from outside- covered in snow even though he had only been outside a minute or so. Kenma watched as he shrugged off his coat and belt to put on a thick sweater instead. He sat down in front of the fire to melt the snow that was in his giant wings, sighing happily as they spread out across the floor. The storm was the worse it had been, howling outside the shack like wolves trying to tear off the doors. The small house swayed and creaked in the wind, it was impossible to see anymore then a foot in front of them. Kenma shivered when the howling increased, hastily wrapping himself further into the blanket to read his book comfortably. This one was about the mountain range and the skies around it- written by someone named Sugawara. He wanted to know every way to get down this mountain as quickly as possible.
Hinata claimed it was a brewing day and gathered dozens of bottles, pouches, and baskets from the rafters and shelves, spreading them out in front of him along with an old worn leather book. He hummed happily as he ground up herbs and mixed them into his pot, cracking open a green bottle Kenma reeled from the smell. "What is that?"
"Essence of wart mushrooms, while the smell is rancid mixed with a bit of cloud wisps and mulberries its a very good stomach ache remedy." He poured a few drops into the pot along with opening a clear glass jar that looked like it was filled with smoke. "I recognize that jar, you took it with you the other day along with several more didn't you?"
"Yeah, I'm the only one who can fill them enough."
"What exactly do you do everyday? You said your self its dangerous to go out now."
"Yeah well, I don't really have a choice to go out and get the cloud wisps. No one else wants to do it and I think its kind of one of the only reasons they keep me around." Hinata sighed, cracking open the seal lid and blowing some of the white smoke into the pot where it seeped into the liquid turning it a pale pink. "i don't understand."
"Ok um, do you know what cloud wisps are?"
"Vaguely, bits of cloud right."
"Sort of, cloud wisps are remnants of the magic that makes the clouds appear. They look like little bits of clouds- which is why their called that- but their never around for long so you have to be fast. No one really likes to do it anyway because its so cold up there but I don't really have a problem with it."
"But even during this dangerous weather?"
"yeah well its one of the main ingredients in lots of medicine and even some desserts we make so we need a lot. And I'm one of the fastest we've got so I'm always on retrieving duty since apparently its all I'm really good for." Hinata's face fell as he snapped the jar shut but it didn't last long, he shook his head with a wide smile on his face. "But hey, its kind of a compliment. Their basically admitting I'm awesome."
"That's cool, I've never seen a you fly."
"Well next time the snow calms you can watch me if you want." He offers as he points to the door regarding the swirling storm that was banging against it. It made Kenma shiver, "Hey you want to help me? Its a lot warmer over here." He moved his large wing and patted the floor next to him. Kenma slipped from his blanket burrito and into the radiating heat from the fire and Hinata. The cold floor sent a shiver up his spine making him curl closer to himself until he felt something warm drape over his shoulders. He glanced at Hinata whos cheeks had turned red and he was avoiding Kenma's eyes as his large wing settled around Kenma like a blanket. It radiated warmth that wrapped around Kenma better then the comforter and he unconsciously shifted closer into the soft black feathers. he felt the heat wrap tighter around him making his cheeks and ears go red, "I-I uh, thought you looked cold. sorry if this is weird I can stop if it is."
"No its fine, your very warm." he squeaked out, "what are you making next?"
"More throat medicine, the cold air does a lot of damage around here. Hand me that blue jar please." Kenma nodded, helping him make the throat medicine. They sat huddled together under his wings as they made everything from burn cream to a strong sense clearer. It smelled so bad Kenma's extra sensitive nose burned when he leaned too close, "That is awful!"
"well that's kind of the point, if it smelled good it couldn't bring people back to their senses. You'd be surprised how often we need this. my friend Suga uses it, he's our main doctor but he cant handle making this stuff without throwing up so i offer to make it."
"That's nice of you. but can we clear the room so i can come out from under this blanket. It smells so bad!" Kenma whined. Hinata burst out laughing as he opened another bottle of tangerine essence that cleared the room of the terrible smell. "There, its gone now."
"Thank goodness." He sighed crawling back out from under the blanket and back under the gingers large wing to relish in the warmth. They worked a while longer, finishing the day with a eye reliever when Hinata heard small purring sounds. he moved his large wing to see Kenma curled up, head against his leg as he breathed softly and slowly, face serene and glowing. Hinata smiled as he brushed his fingers over his pale cheek with a soft smile, chuckling at his own thoughts as he slipped the cat boy into bed.
He was so cute, and Hinata was falling so hard.
