Extreme Storms

When Hinata said the storms would be bad, he wasn't kidding. The snow storms from before were already brutal, but they only last at most a day, and it was just snow.

These were something else entirely.

Snow had turned to raging hail the size of cherries and lightning had joined the mix of howling and screeching. It wasn't even bright anymore, it was like night. Not to mention the temperature. It dropped into the negatives in a matter of hours and he's so glad for the new fur coat because he might have froze inside even with a fire. Hinata had switched his normal boots for thicker leather boots and he was almost always wearing his orange jacket. If he had to leave it would take both of them to push open the frozen door against the winds. The tengu would dress in multiple sweaters under his coat and wrap a scarf all over his mouth and nose so the only thing uncovered was his hair, but he would still return with red marks from the hail. Not to mention that flying safely was almost impossible with the low visibility and high force winds. He was worried he might get hurt.

Despite that Hinata had gone to the market to pick up the seeds he needed for his warming oils and other supplies they needed. He'd also dragged all their firewood into the house so they didn't have to go outside and get them, the pile was rather high in the corner. Kenma would make sure to have a large fire going whenever Hinata returned to they could melt his snow caked wings as quickly as possible. Hinata was miserable, He'd kept his complaining to a minimum but Kenma wasn't stupid, he had a sneaking suspicion that Hinata was the only one having to work out in these storms. And that thought alone made him angry as he helped Hinata break some of the frost that settled on his feathers after his most recent trip.

"Ow!" Hinata hissed as he removed his final sweater to add to the drying pile. Kenma peeked around his wing and felt his heart drop. Hinata's entire left side and upper arm had turned a nasty purple and blue and he was even bleeding in some places. "What happened?"

"I got blown into the mountain side, but it was so cold i didn't even notice i was hurt." Kenma moved his arm to get a better look at Hinata's side, apologizing when Hinata hissed again. "This is bad, i don't think you broke anything."

"Nope, can you grab me the box from under my bed. It's got bandages and stuff." He groaned. Kenma pulled the box out and sat it down next to Hinata, slapping the tengu's hand away when he tried to reach for it. "I'll do it, your too hurt to move right now. Just talk me through it."

"R-right. Um, there's a blue jar with some cream inside and another with some green jelly inside. Put the cream on the bruise and the jelly on the cuts."

"Right." With tender hands he gently spread the cream over the bruised area, whispering in Hinata's ears to distract him from the pain. After covering the scratches Hinata instructed him on how to wrap the bandages around his torso and arm, then helped him into a sweater and onto the edge of the bed. "You shouldn't go out anymore."

"I don't plan too, i was getting the last of my deliveries done. Even for walking it's to dangerous so were stuck together until the storms stop."

"That won't be too bad."

"Hey, you can teach me how to weave. I got some yarn and stuff at the market after i noticed you weaving some random string i had!"

"You noticed that?" Kenma was surprised, he didn't even remember doing that. But weaving was a Bakeneko tribe specialty, living in a bamboo forest gives them plenty of materials. It was a good pastime and it's not like they were short on time. "Sure, is there anything specific you want to make?"

"No not that i can think of, how about you choose."

"Alright. . . how about a bracelet? That's simple."

"Awesome!" Hinata cheered, yelping in pain when he moved to much. Painfully chuckling he pointed to a bag of yarn he had bought at the foot of the bed. They sat across from each other on the bed with a few balls of colorful yarn in the middle. Kenma walked him through how to start it, deciding to start off with a simple chevon pattern. The little v-shaped stripes were coming along, Kenma already halfway done with a very neat bracelet while Hinata's was only a few rows in and kind of messy. The finished product wasn't amazing but Hinata was pretty proud of himself. "Here, i want you to have it." He tied it around Kenma's wrist but frowned when he felt how cold his hands were. Without a second thought he took both of the boys hands and cupped them around his mouth and blew hot air over them.

The warm tingling from his breath made Kenma blush all the way down his neck, "W-What are you doing?"

"Your hands looked cold. Sorry was that weird? It was probably really weird and freaked you out sorry."

"No. . .it wasn't weird. It was very sweet of you."
