How I view the world

Our planet, our home; the place we call Earth has always been a beautiful and diverse place, brimming with life and full of wonder. However, humans have taken it for granted and damaged our planet with our unchecked destruction and disregard for nature. Yet despite this, we still have the power to change our ways and restore the beauty of our world. Our society needs a transformation, a reckoning with how we treat our planet, Indeed, while it may seem simple to just throw away a piece of plastic or leave a mess on the street, these actions are detrimental to our survival. Our environment is a complex ecosystem, with everything interconnected. Waste and litter not only affect the surrounding habitat but also the water supply, air quality, and more, all of which affect our well-being. Additionally, the extinction of species has a profound impact on the balance of nature. Over 32,000 species are currently on the brink of extinction according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature. The notion of 'body' is often seen as a physical construct, yet it is important to recognize that our minds and emotions are just as vital. The body requires love, respect, and care as it is what houses our souls. When those factors are missing, our body cannot thrive, leading to the development of dark thoughts and emotions. As a result, it is paramount to practice self-care and show love toward ourselves and our bodies. This also includes having compassion for those around us and the environment, as all life forms are connected in some way.The horrifying statistic of 81% of women and 16.5% of men being sexually harassed or raped clearly shows that this abhorrent behavior cannot be tolerated any longer. The fact that 1 in 5 girls and 1 in 20 boys are also at risk of sexual violence is heartbreaking. How can we allow ourselves to ruin lives by committing such violent and unnecessary acts? Every human should have the right to feel safe in their own skin. Why sexually harass people? Why ruin their lives? These individuals have done nothing wrong, and do not deserve such sickening treatment. Each human has the right to feel safe in their own body, no matter their gender, age, skin color, or nationality. Our bodies are our respect, our confidence, our privacy, our love. By harassing or disrespecting another's body, we are violating such a fundamental human right. Let us respect one another and treat everyone with the same compassion and dignity. Even using derogatory terms such as "stupid Mexicans", "these dang white people" or calling a black person "thug" is still racism, an ignorant and unjustified prejudice based on race. Indeed, we should all be human, no matter our gender, sexuality, religion, or ethnicity. We should all strive to love each other and share this planet, regardless of our differences. Our sexuality and gender identity should not be the reason for hate, discrimination, and rejection. Unfortunately, homophobia and other phobias towards the LGBTQ+ community still exist, despite the progress that society has made. Homophobic remarks such as 'why do gay people get a month' or 'they don't deserve pride,' deny the existence and validity of the LGBTQ+ community. "It may come as a surprise, but it's true! Several of our past presidents were said to be members of the LGBTQ+ community, including Abraham Lincoln and James Buchanan. In fact, there's even speculation that Alexander Hamilton, one of the founding fathers, was also part of the community. According to historical accounts, Hamilton's letters to some of his male friends, such as John Laurens and Marquis de Lafayette, became increasingly affectionate and flowery over time. Many describe Hamilton as being "feminine," which adds to the speculation about his sexuality. But there's no definitive proof that Lincoln, Buchanan, Hamilton, and other past presidents were part of the LGBTQ+ community. While historians do not fully agree on the nature of the letters Hamilton wrote to Laurens, some believe they were purely platonic. However, there are theories that Hamilton and Laurens held a romantic relationship. Additionally, Lincoln and Buchanan's suspected sexual orientations are still a matter of debate among historians. So while we may never know the true answer, it's important to remember that the diversity and inclusion of the LGBTQ+ community is a fundamental part of American history and culture. Despite their immense power and influence, it seems that some of our past presidents may not have been straight. It is okay for high-status individuals to identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community, as sexual orientation is a personal trait and should not affect one's abilities. Diversity and inclusion have always been fundamental parts of American culture, and it is important to respect and embrace them. As a society, we must ensure that all individuals, regardless of sexual orientation, receive equal treatment and fair opportunities. Although progress has been made in recent years, bullying, especially against members of the LGBTQ+ community, continues to be a significant problem. According to the National Coalition Against Bullying, 34% of teens have been the victim of nonsexual peer abuse and 48% of those who identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community face peer sexual harassment. Moreover, despite popular belief that this type of harassment occurs behind the scenes, most bullying takes place in front of teachers and administrators. We must address this issue and promote a more accepting and compassionate environment in our schools. According to the University of Washington's collective data on depression nationwide, people in 2017 were very unhappy with life in general. With an overall average of 5.62 points, most reported their well-being to be fair, or only moderately happy. The correlation with bullying is still not widely known. However, this phenomenon cannot be taken lightly. Every year 1.7 children per 100,000 commit suicide. Not only does bullying drastically affect one's mental health, but it can ultimately end a life

The United States has one of the highest rates of death by suicide. This is a heartbreaking problem and one that should not be taken lightly. It's important to acknowledge that many factors can contribute to an individual's risk for suicide including depression, alcohol and drug abuse, financial woes, relationship issues, physical health problems, and more. To combat this issue, we must address the underlying factors that contribute to a person's mental health and well-being. This includes providing access to affordable mental healthcare and counseling services. We must also acknowledge the social and economic barriers that contribute to a person's risk for suicidal impulses.

Words are powerful tools, and I believe that we should use them with compassion and respect. Our earth is beautiful, and we must treat it with care. All lives matter, and we must show respect toward one another's bodies. As Thumper said in Bambi, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all." We, Gen-Z, care about this world, and we hope that others will hear our words and take action. We believe in creating a better future for all, and we believe in kindness and compassion.
