"What? William Jones is dead?" Was the exclamation Tacha gave in disbelief when Dezerel told her the reason why the school was in its state of chaos. The whole school was scattered. Students paired themselves on twos and threes talking, gisting and gossiping about the unexpected and unforseen event, "William Jones died." Tacha couldn't believe what she heard. She was sad but evidently not up to some other students. Lora was uncontrollably crying while Tania, Dorcas and one other girl from her class were consoling her. "How did u guys get to know just this morning" Tacha asked Dezerel who was lost in thought." I myself don't know. I came to school to get to hear that he is dead" Dezerel said. Tacha still didn't want to believe it " what is said to be the cause of his death" Tacha asked " well, we don't know yet till the detectives do their findings" Dezerel said.
At the mention of detectives, Tacha knew her dad might possibly be involved. She ran outside the class to the hallway. She looked down and sighted her father questioning some teachers and some students too. Different thoughts came running in her mind and then, something clicked. Yeah! She remembered that she was the last person he saw before heading home. She thought so hard about their conversation while they headed home to see if she noticed anything suspicious about him while on their way. "Oh! the call" she said almost aloud covering her mouth before anyone would hear her. The only thing she could think of that was amiss on their way home was that a particular person was frequently calling him which he cut every single time. Again, it came to her remembrance that after she waved him goodbye and they were both some distance away, he picked up the call. That was all she could remember. She wanted soo much to tell someone about what she knew but she knew too well that anyone could have been the killer or could have been in one way or the other involved in the death so she kept quiet. She had this feeling that she should let Dezerel know but she couldn't do that because of the little part of the discussion she heard in class the day she came for her purse.
Tacha then came to a conclusion that she won't tell anyone unless she sees it as a necessity. Mr Kinsley came into the class at that moment, everyone rushed to their respective seats. Talking, gisting and gossiping ceased immediately.
"I know you students are shocked, scared and some are pained because of this unwanted incident that happened to one of our own and I feel greatly for the loss, in light of that I'd love to tell you something. Be careful wherever you go and if you are bothered by anything, you can always come to me for advice" Mr Kinsley said sternly to everyone's face waiting for their responses. "Yes sir" the whole class responded in unison. "We would continue with today's class and I would love everyone to pay attention and leave what has happened behind and let the detectives take care of it. At least, if you want to do anything at all,you can't raise the dead" Mr Kinsley said and started his teaching. " That was too harsh" Tacha thought to herself.
Through out the day, the school was stone cold. Tacha wanted to find out a solution to it all but she knew it wasn't in her place to do so but the detective spirit in her dad was passed on to her. If she was bent on finding out a solution to something, she won't stop not until she finds it.During the rest of the classes for the day, Tacha listened attentively to the teachers and used a little part of her heart to read the minds and faces of everyone in the class. Tacha knew that what happened to Williams wasn't a natural occurrence. She knew well that he would have talked to someone about him being stalked if that was to be the case or someone would have found out about what's going on I just has she knew about the call or someone who knows who the killer might be in their class and is just keeping mute for one reason or the other and she wanted to be sure that someone was in their class.
She took time to study the countenance, disposition and facial expression of every student in the class but nothing was forthcoming. When she looked at Dezerel, she saw that Dezerel was lost in thoughts. Tacha knew in a very part of her mind that Dezerel knew something no one did and could possibly know the killer or could be the killer herself but one part of her mind told her that Dezerel wasn't the killer. Having lots of people to check out, Tacha immediately added Dezerel to her list of people she felt needed to be questioned. She tilted her face to Lora we ho sat at the end of her row. She was sobbing and cleaning her now as quiet as possible. Tacha wanted to know the relationship between between her and williams for his death to hit her harder than any other student in the class. She felt that Lora should know something too since she was that close to Williams.
All this while, Tacha had a little note she was in using to jot down the names in order. The only person left which she hasn't checked out was pearl and it's because she sat directly at her back. Tacha thought hard for a reason to turn back "yeah! I need a pen" Tacha thought smiling. Immediately, she stopped a smiling, she faced Pearl. Pearl looked at her in eye ball to be eye ball. Tacha tried hard to read her mind and facial expression but they were both blank. Pearl seemed indifferent, not happy and not sad. "This is going to be tough" Tacha thought aloud. "What did you say?" Pearl asked leaning a bit forward to hear what Tacha said "hmmm... I said do you have a spare pen?" Tacha whispered. " Yeah I do" Pearl whispered back taking out a new pen from her bag."Thank you" Tacha said smiling at Pearl. She faced forward heaving a sign of relief because pearl almost heard what she actually said.
The rest of the activities of the day were gloomy. Tacha couldn't wait to get home away from the cries and pains of everyone and most importantly to hint her father on her findings.
