Beyond the beauty view

Chapter 2- Curious Mind

The atmosphere was cool and beautiful but it wasn't all too good because it was polluted with noise coming from a particular direction. "What's the noise all about again" Mr Kinsley asked talking to no one in particular. He walked briskly to class 2 which was almost at the end of the hall while Tacha followed him closely. Immediately he opened the door, the class went silent all at once. He stood looking at everyone in the class with questionable eyes as if he wants an answer from a particular person. After making eye contact with everyone, a boy of average height stood up and narrated what happened while the homeroom teacher was away without being called upon to do so.

Not needed to be told, Tacha knew he was the class representative owing to the way he reacted immediately when the teacher looked at the class with a questioning eyes as if it was his duty. The boy narrated "I'm very sorry sir for the noise. A fight occurred between Lora and Pearl. They both..." before he could complete the narration, Mr Kinsley cut in "you should be apologizing for your incompetence as the class representative and not the noise made". " I'm sorry for my incompetence sir but..." The boy wanted to continue but Mr Kinsley cut in sharply again "that will be all for now. Lora and Pearl do make sure to see me immediately after school" he stopped a bit, made a deep heave, changed his countenance immediately from a frown to a lit up face then continued "this is a very bad way to welcome a new student to the class" he said facing back and beckoning on Tacha to move forward. Tacha facing the whole class bowed and said "Good day everyone. I'm Tacha by name a transfer student from kiddies Academy. I hope we get along well". " You are welcome" the whole class replied with everyone having different expressions on their faces.

Tacha knew that with the expressions on their faces, she has to be well behaved and keep to herself for the time being. She had this unusual feeling that there was something very odd about the school and the students just on her first day at school. As she walked to her seat which was in the middle row and column, she studied all the faces that made contact with her. Some people's faces were with a frown ,some lit up while others were blank. She noticed that the girl sitting at her side was exceptionally smiling at her. As she sat down, she faced the girl and greeted her "hi I'm Tacha and you are?". "Dezerel" the girl replied. Through out that day, Tacha followed Dezerel to wherever she went and engaged in all activities that she engaged in too because she was the only person that seemed open to her.

School was unreasonably fast that day for Tacha. After school hours, she had to wait for her mum to come pick her up since it was her first day at school. She knew fully well that it would stop that day so she decided to enjoy it while it lasted. While waiting for her mum at the park, Tacha heard some girls who she later figured were from her class saying something which caught her attention. "Do you think Lora would get into trouble?" The blonde girl among them asked who Tacha later got to know as Dorcas. "Well I don't think so because it's actually Pearl who is at fault. Nobody sent her to do what she did" Tania answered. Tania was Tacha's side mate to the right while Dezerel to the left. Having heard their conversation, Tacha wondered what actually could be Pearls offense for her to be treated that way. She did not cease to be amused that all this happened just on her first day at school.

Still in her world of thoughts, someone stood beside her as if waiting for someone. Tacha turned to the side to see who it was, surprised to see Dezerel " oh! Dezerel" Tacha said lightening up. "Hey, you still here? doing what exactly?" Dezerel asked surprised as well. "Am waiting for my mum to come pick me up just for today though just because it's my first day at school"Tacha replied smiling. " Oh that's nice. I'm waiting for my mum too" Dezerel paused a bit then continued "So, how was your first day at school?" Dezerel asked. "Why do you sound exactly like my mum?" Tacha said laughing, Dezerel joined in too. " Well, my first day was fun I guess but it was full of different happenings which is too much for a new student just on her first day at school" Tacha said giggling. "Emmmm...while we are at it, I would love to know something" Tacha said as if remembering something from her experience that day."yes am all ears. What's it you want to know" Dezerel asked. "What's the deal with Pearl. With the way she's being treated et all, what's her offence?" Tacha asked concerned. Dezerel's expression changed immediately at the mention of Pearl's name. "You wouldn't want to know about it and you shouldn't. Just don't involve yourself in it. It's for the best. I'll be off now"Dezerel replied sharply. " Did I ask a wrong question or did I say something I'm not supposed to?" Tacha asked herself thoughtfully. " Hey, I thought you were waiting for your mum where are you off to then?" Tacha asked almost shouting after Dezerel who had already walked far. "I changed my mind. See you tomorrow" Dezerel replied shouting back so that Tacha could hear her. "Suddenly? that's wierd. Well let me just keep to myself to avoid trouble"Tacha thought aloud. "See you tomorrow then" Tacha shouted waving to no one in particular.

"Pum! Pum!" The sound of her mum's honk made her turn back. Facing back fully, she saw her mum smiling at her from the wind shield of the car. Tacha ran over to the car. Her mum came out to hug her "sorry am a bit late dear. I had lots of things to take care of at work". "No problem mum. You are forgiven" Tacha said happily.

Tacha was the only child of her parents. Due to that, they loved her dearly and gave her all an happy family could give a child. They aimed at giving her the best in life and giving her to the best education possible.

"Hey mum, I'll be back, I forgot my purse in my locker. Give me just 5 minutes please" Tacha pleaded. Mrs Mayor looked at Tacha with the corner of her eyes signifying that she didn't like the idea of Tacha being forgetful. Tacha pleaded more with her facial expression like one who if not given something could cause havoc. "Please mum. Mum please" Tacha pleaded further jumping and clinging to her mum's cloth. "Fine it's just 5 minutes and nothing more" Mrs Mayor said looking away. The relived Tacha fled towards the school's direction shouting "thanks mum" at the top of her voice. Mrs Mayor laughed aloud "just keep to time that's all".

Tacha got to class, took her purse from her locker at the back of the class and then went over to her seat. She bent down to pick up her books which she had mistakely hit while running to the back of the class. As she was about standing up, she heard some footsteps and voices coming to the direction of the class. It was a rule in the school that no one should be seen in the school premises after school hours. What came to her mind first was she should hid till whoever it is leaves but another thought said she should rush out covering her face with her books. She then decided to do the latter. As she was about standing up to leave, some girls came in and they were talking about Pearl and Lora. Curiousity started to play on her. She didn't want to go anymore. She really wanted to know what's up with Pearl that it seemed like everyone was against her.

Tacha tried to listen keenly to what the girls had to say because they were standing by the window side of the class. "Are you sure about it?" One of the girls asked. Tacha knew that they had been talking even before they got to class. "I'm totally sure I saw them" another girl replied. " So you mean Pearl might get expelled if this gets out?" The first girl asked. " I'm not soo sure but I think so" the other girl replied. Tacha from where she hid tried to figure out what they were saying but nothing was coming to her mind. "Huh! it's a pity" the first girl said,heaved deeply then said to the surprise of Tacha "was Dezerel involved in this too?" At the mention of the name " Dezerel", Tacha became more confused and surprised. "How possible is it that they mentioned Dezerel's name. Oh! Maybe that's why she didn't answer my question the other time" possible thoughts were coming to her mind about how Dezerel could be involved. She wasn't conscious to the fact that she was trying to hide from the girls. One of her notebook fell off to the ground on her attempt to stand up. She quickly picked it up and stayed in one spot knowing well that she would soon be caught.

"Is someone there?" The first girl who spoke asked. The two girls both moved to the door of the class wondering if anyone was actually listening to their conversation the whole while. To Tacha's aid, Mrs Mayor appeared at the other side of the door. Immediately the girls saw her side view, they mistook her for a teacher and fled. Mrs Mayor was surprised to see the girls run away and didn't know what it was about. Looking into the class, she couldn't find Tacha. "Tacha?" She called out into the empty class. Tacha heard her mum's voice and stood up from her hiding spot. "What were you doing there? Hiding?" Mrs Mayor questioned. "Not exactly mum, I was picking up some books which fell off by mistake while I was passing". Tacha replied forcing out a smile. Mrs Mayor was all suspicious "are you sure about that because it didn't seem that way" Mrs Mayor said with a frown. "Mum, I'm fine seriously. I was just arranging my books that's all. Let's go mum" Tacha said. " Then if that's it you will have to pay for the 5 minutes you added more to the time I gave you" Mrs Mayor said smiling. " Fine mum. I'll pay" Tacha said walking out of the class. "Tacha?" Mrs Mayor called. Tacha turned back "yes mum". "You forgot your purse again" Mrs Mayor said looking at her confused daughter. "Oh! That's true. My purse" Tacha exclaimed laughing at herself and went back to pick the purse. They both held hands,walked themselves through the hallway down to the school gate, entered the car and zoomed off.
