September 1st rolls around after what feels like forever, I wake up at 9am and stumble down the stairs still rubbing sleep out of my eyes. My mom is busy in the kitchen making me breakfast, muttering something about how I'll need the strength and I have a long day ahead of me, but there's no way I can eat I'm far too excited because today is the day I finally go to Hogwarts. After breakfast I go back upstairs to shower and wash my hair. I apply more makeup than usual; I want my emerald eyes to pop extra today. I pull on a pair of leggings and my mom's old Hogwarts sweater that she gave me. I wanted to look good but effortless. I was already going to be the centre of attention, so I needed to make sure that I didn't draw and extra attention to myself.

10:30 comes around and we are just about done filling the car, all that's left is to pack up Salem and say goodbye to my dad. He pulls me in in such a tight embrace I'm sure I hear something pop in my back, but I know he's only worried, so I let him hug me a little longer. He looks at me with the same eyes that I have and says "good luck sweetie, you'll do great. My little witch"

We arrive at Kings Cross station and my mom hurries me along the platform until we reach the wall in between platforms 9 and 10. I look at her with a confused expression and she says "right, okay now your train leaves at 11am sharp at platform 9 and ¾ and to get onto the pla-"

"I'm sorry did you just say 9 and ¾ don't be ridiculous" I exclaim, cutting off her sentence

"Yes Elsie, you heard right but you'd better keep that tongue under control else you'll be losing house points faster than you can say quidditch" She says firmly.

"quidditch?" I ask.

"you'll find out soon enough. But listen to me, what you're going to do is walk directly at that wall there" as she points to a whole ass BRICK wall "and if you're nervous best run at it. I'll meet you there after you've gone through"

I oblige and run at the wall whilst closing my eyes, which may not have been my smartest idea however when I re opened them I was standing on a platform that wasn't there before, I find myself in front of a great scarlet and black train with steam pouring from its chimney and the letters Hogwarts Express written across the front. I turn around to see if my mom had come through the wall yet and surely enough there she was stood right behind me. "Now lets' get you loaded onto the train" she said with tears filling her eyes seconds away from escaping her tear ducts. After I was all set, she gave me a hug and shooed me onto the train with little under five minutes until departure.

I wandered down the train looking for an empty cabin, as I peer into all of the compartments I accidentally walk into someone. I look up and stare into the most gorgeous grey eyes.

"Watch where the fuck you're going will you." Spat the boy.

"Jesus fucking christ, I'm sorry ok. I clearly didn't see you. Are you always this rude?"

"Yes. Who the fuck are you anyway, you look my age but I've never seen you. Oh wait. Don't tell me you're the girl from muggle school." He said as he fake vomited in his mouth showcasing his disgust at the muggle world.

"I am actually, now will you and your obviously entitled arse get out of my way so I can find Hermione."

"It gets better, first muggle school, now hanging around with a mudblood. Merlin help you if you're put into my house."

From the tone of his voice I gathered that mudblood isn't a nice word at all. Before giving him any more of my time I shove past him making sure to dig an elbow in as I continue past him and down the corridor.

I come across a cabin with just one girl in there, I pop my head round the door and ask, "mind if I sit?"

"no, not at all. The others will be along in a minute. I'm Joy, I've not seen you before are you new? You really don't look like a first year"

"I'm Elsie, I'm actually going into 6th year but I've transferred from a regular school. Who are the others by the way?

"Oh, you're the girl from the muggle school, right? You're all anyone's talked about all summer! Elsie Fairchild, right? And don't mind about the others just some family friends."

"Yeah that's right" I reply nervously. Had people really been talking about me? Is that why I got so many weird looks as I walked down the train? I bumped into a blonde boy who was so fucking rude, talking about mudbloods."

"That'll be Malfoy, school bully and self important asshole. Slytherin of course."

"And what house are you?

"Well I'm in Hufflepuff and Fred and George there are Gryffindor" she said as she gestured to the door pointing to two identical boys, both tall and with the same flaming hair as the boy I had met in Diagon Alley. "I suppose you'll be sorted with the first years when we get to school. Don't worry about it too much just enjoy the ride. The Trolley Witch should be by soon and I'll show you my favourite sweets." Joy continued.

"Hi, I'm Fred" said one of the boys who had just sat down "and I'm George" said the other finishing his brother's sentence. "You're Hermione's cousin if I'm not mistaken?" George asked. "You must've met Ron then?"

"Erm... yes, to both. Hermione's my cousin from my dad, and I met Ron whilst shopping for my school stuff at Diagon Alley."

Before anyone could respond an elderly looking lady had approached the cabin and she asked if anyone had wanted anything from the trolly she was wheeling. George and Fred brought every flavour beans and told the story of how they got a bogey flavoured one once, Joy brought some chocolate frogs and showed my the cards you get inside them. But I was still too nervous to eat so I didn't get anything. A couple hours and many games of exploding snap later we drew closer to the school and joy prompted me to put on my robes and get ready to get off the train.

At the platform in a town called Hogsmeade (an all wizarding town close to the school grounds) stood a man larger than any I'd seen before and he was bellowing "firs' years this way. Get yer trunks an' then follow me" he turned and spotted me and said "ello Elsie is it? I'm gamekeeper for Hogwarts, names Hagrid. You'll need ter be keepin' with the firs' years until the sortin'" My face hot with embarrassment nodded and left the group made up of Joy, Fred and George and followed the tiny first years into boats across the lakes. As we neared the castle I could see past the fog and I saw a magnificent building with so many towers staring back at me, I was in absolute awe. Obviously, I'd seen pictures, but nothing did this building justice.

Once inside a witch in emerald robes and a black hat appeared from behind large double doors, she explained the sorting process and told me that as the oldest I'd be going first.

All of a sudden, my heart sank, and the anxiety kicked in, I was going to be sorted in front of the whole school. What if I trip? What if I get a bad house? I'd like Hufflepuff or Gryffindor at least I would definitely have friends. The lady who I discovered to be Professor McGonagall, head of Gryffindor house called us through the doors to be sorted.
