Draco's POV
Waking up with Elsie wrapped around my body was heavenly, even though we aren't in a good place right now, we fought the other week and never talked it out I just avoided it by showing her what she would miss if she left me. Still, she sleeps softly, lips slightly parted with one hand still tangled in my hair. She looks so innocent, so peaceful, I wish this moment could last, the calm before the storm. I'm dreading dinner tonight; she's going to find out two things I wish I could've kept from her for longer and I don't know which will hurt her more. The fact that I'm a death eater tasked with killing the greatest wizard in his time, or that her being paired with me in potions was part of a much bigger plan, I wasn't supposed to fall for her, but I couldn't help it she consumes me I want to spend every waking moment with her. Things aren't simple for us, and they probably never will be.
I acted like an ass yesterday by telling her she isn't my girlfriend, when I desperately want her to be but I can't make that commitment. I can't lie to her any more, I can't take the guilt. She is going to be destroyed.
I know that after tonight she will never speak to me again, so I stay still and quiet for a few more moments taking in this perfect moment until I plant a kiss on her forehead and watch her stir. Her eyes flutter open and stare into mine before she smiles and nestles her head into my chest. Fuck. I could let her stay here forever. No, I can't.
"Els come on don't hide from me now." I say playfully. She doesn't answer but instead dives under the covers in protest of waking up. Fuck she's cute in the morning. I follow her lead and bury myself in the duvet with her planting a kiss her cheek. "Come on doll we need to get up and packed for the weekend."
It's ironic calling her doll considering she was supposed to be a puppet at first, something for me to play with and manipulate.
Finally, she emerges out from the bed sheets in her clothes from yesterday, her green eyes wide and full of life, I love her eyes. There is a whole world I am yet to explore behind them, and a mischievous sparkle is never too far away from revealing itself when she's feeling playful.
"I look silly, my clothes are crumpled. I'm going to look a mess sneaking back to my room." She says.
"Here take this." I pull my shirt off rolling my eyes as if it's a chore, but I think she knows I want to see her in my clothes. She makes me turn around as she changes but I steal a few glances.
"Ok, I'm done." She remarks.
I spin round and I'm stopped dead in my tracks, in front of me stands the most incredible sight. My plain black t shirt grazes her thighs and looks 3 sizes too big on her, I mean it is, but it looks perfect.
"Okay, I'll meet you in the common room in an hour then?" She says as she reaches for the door handle
"And you think you're walking back through the boy's corridor looking like that without me there?"
"Fine." She says rolling her eyes. "You can walk me back to my room."
Elsie's POV.
I'm still mad at him for his behaviour yesterday, he chose the exact words that he knew would hurt, but seeing him so raw and honest last night, even if he was drunk reminded me that he doesn't mean everything he says. He doesn't know how to handle emotions properly, that isn't an excuse for how he treats me obviously but I can show him and guide him. I can fix him.
Draco leaves me standing outside my room after he kissed my forehead and told me I had an hour to be ready. I push open the door and I'm bombarded by questions.
"WHERE WERE YOU?"
"Is that Draco's shirt?"
"Did you guys do it?"
"I thought you stayed with the Hufflepuff?"
"Sorry guys, yeah I stayed with Joy for a while until Draco came to the Hufflepuff common room drunk, I stayed with him in the spare room along the boy's corridor. No, we didn't sleep together we just cuddled, and he gave me his shirt to come back in because my clothes were too messed up from sleeping in them. I have an hour to get ready, I'm staying at Malfoy Manor for the weekend." I tell them, trying to answer all the questions at once.
"Wait, he's taking you home?" Ash said sceptically.
"Yeah, something about his mom and needing to talk."
"Oh, I've just never known him invite anyone over, not even his best friends." She carries on.
I shower and wash my hair as quick as I can and leave it damp, thank god my hair dries somewhat nicely. I pack some clothes into a bag and head down to the common room where Draco is already waiting, he's pacing back and forth almost as if he's worried about something. I walk over to him and put a reassuring hand on his back.
"Ready doll?"
"Finally going to tell her then, Malfoy?" Pansy sneers as she walks past us in the common room, noticing our bags in hand.
"Excuse me?" I reply with all sorts of attitude.
"No, no. I'll give him the honours of telling you who's been pulling your pretty little strings." She snarls back with a bitter face
"Shut up Pansy, you have no idea whats going on." Draco strikes back at Pansy with a firm hand around my waist, I cant tell wether he's giving me protection against Pansy, fighting the urge to slap her or showing her that we are together. "Ready doll?" He repeats, looking towards me desperately.
Confused I nod and we walk towards the passageway that leads to Hogsmeade so we can apparate to the mansion. I have no clue what Pansy is on about but I know now isn't the time to ask, so I make a mental note to ask him later.
We arrive at the ginormous gates of a large black house; I knew Draco was rich but damn this is way beyond what I had imagined. We start the walk down the drive and Draco interlaces his fingers with mine, he leans down and whispers in my ear.
"Whatever happens tonight I want you to think about how far we've come. I care about you so much Els. Please try to remember that."
I don't respond but instead give his hand a reassuring squeeze, although I don't know why I'm the one reassuring him when I feel like my hearts about to jump out of my chest. Why would he say that to me? Has he done something wrong? I have no idea but by the end of the day I'm sure I'll find out everything.
The next chapter is going to be a long one I think. I have an idea of how things are going to play out, the seeds have been planted in previous chapters but idk if anyone picked up on them yet! Happy reading
