Damon's POV

The door opened and I looked up from my new phone. A cute bleach-blonde haired girl entered. She looked like a stereotypical cheerleader.

"Hi, I have a friend who was absent for first period and she asked me to pick up her work. I'm Caroline by the way, nice to meet you." She offered me her hand and I stood up and shook it.

"Mr. Salvatore." I said politely, resisting the craving to sink my teeth into her soft neck... Luckily with Elena's blood in my system I wasn't very thirsty. I handed her what the students in first period had worked on. "This was the class work, the teacher didn't assign homework."

"Thank you so much!" Caroline started to leave but then she turned back. "Why would someone as young as you want to waste their time as a substitute?" She asked.

I smiled. "What's wrong with substitutes?" I asked innocently. I honestly had no idea why anyone would want this job. It was boring, and teens were always rude to subs.

"Nothing's wrong with them, it just doesn't seem like a job that a- how old are you?" She asked. She dropped her eyes to my desk, embarrassed, staring at the mess of ungraded papers. "Sorry, I'm being nosy."

"It's fine. I'm twenty-two." I answered, not missing the fact that she was just trying to figure out my age.

"Shouldn't you be in college?" She asked, looking back up from the papers on the desk.
"I am. I didn't schedule any classes on Thursdays." I said quickly, even though I'd never even stepped foot in a college.

"So instead of classes, you choose to spend your Thursday's as a substitute teacher."

I laughed at her sarcasm. "No, I'm majoring in teaching. One of my professors recommended this as practice." I was digging myself into a hole of lies but I didn't care. I could always compel her to forget if I blew my cover.

"Oh, that's nice." Caroline said, but she was only half listening. She glanced at the door, and when her gaze met mine again, she was wearing a mischievous smile. "This is kind of random, but would you be interested in a blind date?" She asked, taking me by surprise.

"Are you trying to set me up with someone?" I questioned, making her blush.

"Well, will you go?" She asked, ignoring my question.

"Sure, why not?" I could take a break from stalking Elena for one night to go on a date. Caroline beamed, glancing back at the door.

"Who is it?" I asked nonchalantly.

"If I told you, it wouldn't be a blind date." She said, rolling her eyes.

"Yeah, I guess not..." I could have compelled it out of her, but I decided to wait. I enjoyed surprises.

"Are you free tonight?" Caroline asked.

"Yep."

"Ok, then be at the Harmonia Gardens restaurant at 6:30 tonight. You'll know who she is because she has brown hair and she will be wearing a dark blue knee length dress."
"Ok, sounds good."

"Great! Bye!" Caroline said excitedly, running from the room.
