It seemed like forever until someone actually got to us and when they did it was four firemen. They said they came in as a team of ten and every time they ran into a group of survivors like ourselves, one fireman leaves the group and makes sure the group gets out safely.

So, once again, one fireman stayed with us and the other three continued up the stairs. Our fireman's name was Jake. And I really hoped he could get us out of here alive. He told us that we were on the 67th floor. Meaning me and my group had walked down ten flights of stairs before even reaching the firemen.

As we continue down the stairs, the less debri, ash, smoke, and bodies filled the stairway. Once we got to the 34th floor. We ran into another group or three and they joined us down the stairs. I stayed close to Jake, the entire time. Right as we made it onto the second floor stairwell. We had passed a lot of people now.
We were so close, but so far, because right as we reached that stairway. Jake said he was going to turn around now and head back upstairs. Honestly, I didn't want him to leave but I really had no choice in the matter. He was doing his job and it's not like he owed me anything. I had a family to get too. I just hope they are all okay.
As Jake started to turn around the building started shaking only for a few seconds. Next thing you know there is so much noise. Ear splitting cracks and bangs, thumps of all kinds. And suddenly I can't breathe. I feel like I'm being squashed. And that's when I realize I am being squashed my tons of metal and concrete. By the tower.
The tower had collapsed.
