The Volkswagen scoured the cracked asphalt just as the last of the days light fled from the string of islands; disappearing beneath the evergreen trees and leaving the sky as merely a blank sheet of nothingness. Calvin Harris' Feel So Close bled lowly from the radio as John B rattled off a checklist of things they needed for their gravely anticipated heist.

"You guys got rope?" The Routledge boy (𝚃𝚑𝚎 𝙲𝚊𝚙𝚝𝚊𝚒𝚗) asked, his fractured arm resting on the edge of the open window, the other grasping the steering wheel loosely.

"Got it." Pope, (𝚃𝚑𝚎 𝙱𝚛𝚊𝚒𝚗𝚜) affirmed with a brief nod of his head.

"Grappling hook?"

"We don't have a grappling hook." The intelligent teenager scoffed, his tone laced with blatant obviousness. "We're not Batman."

"Pulley?" John B continued on, pushing forty over the bridge that linked The Cut and Figure Eight.

"Check!" Kiara (𝚃𝚑𝚎 𝙵𝚒𝚡𝚎𝚛) confirmed, while adjusting the black beanie atop of her curls.

"Dark clothes?"

"You know, the fact that you didn't ask if we had everything before we got all the way on the other side of town, is mind blowing." Alana (𝚃𝚑𝚎 𝙲𝚘𝚗𝚖𝚊𝚗) teased. Her golden waves were braided into two French braids, and a pair of black biker shorts and a t-shirt dressed her figure.

"Flashlights?" John B ignored her comment, reeling off the remainder of the list.

"Check."

"All right, good." The Volkswagen came to a stop just outside of the stone wall encasing Mrs. Crain's unkempt Victorian home. "We're ready." The engine cut and John B clambered out of the drivers seat after killing the headlights.

"Let's go get rich, guys." JJ Maybank (𝙰𝚛𝚝𝚒𝚕𝚕𝚎𝚛𝚢) uttered excitedly, securing a black bandana around his neck.

"You're gonna jinx it." Alana nudged the blonde boy as John B tugged open the sliding back door.

"Wait, wait, wait." He halted the crew as they went to climb out of the compacted backseat, that felt a little less spacey with new addition: Sarah Cameron. "I wanna say thank you, guys. Seriously." John B pulled his hood over his unruly curls, though his gaze was steadfast and sincere on his crew of friends. "It means a lot to me that you're here tonight."

"Always." Kiara playfully rolled her chocolate eyes, earning a soft chuckle from the freckle-faced boy.

"Of course, man." Pope added, slapping his hand against John B's as they did the infamous handshake.
