in this story Kim y/n was adopted by Duke Gong yoo, she has two step-brother's which is

Kim Namjoon the eldest son, and the next heir to the Kim's Dukedom and a pure devil asshole

&

Kim Taehyung the second son, of the Kim's Dukedom and a total duchbag

both of them didn't have any close relationship with y/n, they loathe her and purely hated her existence

causing them to physically hurt her, y/n was five when the Duke decided to adopt her for replacement for his deceased daughter Kim Nayeon, While Namjoon was eight and Taehyung was seven

When y/n first joined the Kim residence, she expected to be love by her new family but none of them even bother to take a look at her and completely ignoring her excistance

actually while reading the story I really pitied y/n, she only wanted to be love and have a happy family but she end up having exactly the opposite and it was the cause why she died pitiful

Her being to naive, always treating them as her own family, greeting the Duke and occasionally calling him 'father' only to be ignored, snickers and laughters of his brothers would fill up her head

there were times when Kim Taehyung her stepbrother crossed the line by pushing her on the stairs that caused her to break her left wrist and twist her right foot

Even with an injured state no one bothered to take care of her, completely alone no one by her side, even the maid's, butler, and knights look down on her

and when Kim Namjoon told her words that really broke her down

"Stop thinking that we're family, because you'll never be a part of my family"

and slapping her hard in her right cheeks, leaving a big mark for a week

Eventually 12 years of y/n staying at the Dukedom nothing changed, except for her eyes that shines when you look at her and the smile she always wears even when she's hurt and even when she's ignored

all of that was gone, her eyes turned dull, too dull and dark...

the smile that she always wears was gone...

she would constantly buy a lots of jewelries dresses and spend all her money to forget her reality

But all of it stopped when y/n turned eighteen, when she met Jin, Kim Seokjin the main lead of the story and the crown king, her sparkling eyes went back the smile that she always wears was back again
