"Mom, how do I bake cupcakes?" Jeno asked over the phone. Tomorrow was Valentine's Day and something deep inside him told him he should at least try to be a bit romantic. And there he was, standing in the kitchen without even having the slightest idea on how he should turn on the oven.

"Jen, what makes you want to bake cupcakes so suddenly?" His mom asked while she was organizing the papers on her desk.

"Mom, tomorrow is Valentine's Day," Jeno said, surprised his mother forgot about it, but then again, it was always Jeno's father that spoiled his wife during Valentine's Day. She always forgot about it until her husband gave her some chocolate or flowers.

"And who is the lucky girl?" She asked, but quickly she remembered in which century they lived and corrected herself. "Or boy of course."

"For your information, it's a girl, her name is Minyeon."

"That's such a pretty name! Good luck, honey!" And just like that, without giving Jeno any instructions on how to make cupcakes, his mom ended the call. Jeno groaned when he looked back to the oven again.

"So, flour and eggs then?" Jeno asked himself when looking up a random recipe on the small cakes. "Can't be that hard right?"

At least, that was what he thought.

He put the flour, baking powder and salt in the standmixer, without even thinking he put it on high speed, causing the flower to go everywhere, including Jeno's face and clothes. "Well fuck."

-

"Okay now the butter..." On his second try he luckily got passed the flour stage, this time he carefully mixed the dry ingredients together. Now it was time for the wet ingredients. He just took the butter out of the fridge and thus it was still solid.

"The recipe says room temperature." Jeno mumbled, he looked around the room and spotted a possible solution at the other side of the room. He took the stick of butter in his hand and put it on the heater.

After a good minute, he checked if the butter had gotten soft or not, he poked the butter with his finger but it was still rock hard.

His eyes gilded over the room again. He took the butter in his hand again and unwrapped it from the paper, then he put it in a bowl.

"You're a genius Lee Jeno." He complimented himself.

-

"Melted equals room temperature, right?" Jeno had put the butter into the microwave, which not only caused it to be room temperature, but it also got completely melted down into a liquid.

Jeno didn't think much about it and just added the eggs into the bowl. He cracked them on the counter and opened them above the bowl, which was easier said than done to be honest.

The tap on the counter went well, but then he cracked it open and just happened to drop some of the shell into the butter too. He tried to get it out of there but everytime his finger got close to the shell, it moved away.

"Goddammit."

-

"Okay Jeno, now be careful." The boy somehow managed to fill a whole tray with cupcake liners and fill them up to the very top with batter. He took the tray in both his hands and walked to the oven which he managed to turn on.

He put the cupcakes in the oven, not knowing where to put it in the oven, he put the tray somewhere in the middle of the oven. He closed the door and set a timer on his phone.

"Here goes nothing."

-

"Hey Jaemin, I don't know if I bothered you but if I did, I'm sorry. I just really needed your help," Jeno said when he opened the door.
