As Y/n sat at lunch, her exhaustion palpable, she found solace in the unexpected company of Oikawa's best friend, Iwaizumi. His casual greeting brought a fleeting smile to her lips, a brief respite from the weight of her turmoil. Yet, in that simple exchange, a bitter irony hung in the air – the realization that the boyfriend's best friend offered more comfort and kindness than the boyfriend himself, a cliché that cut deeper than she dared to admit.
Y/n's heart skipped a beat as Iwaizumi's questions pierced through the veil of her facade, revealing the cracks in her relationship with Oikawa. She hesitated, torn between the instinct to protect Oikawa's image and the longing to confide in his closest friend."Yeah, just how's Oikawa?" Y/n asked absentmindedly, her fingers fidgeting in her lap before she could stop herself."Fine, but he always goes off with—" Iwaizumi stopped abruptly, his words hanging in the air.Y/n met his gaze, a flicker of curiosity and apprehension in her eyes."Wait, why are you and him never together?" Iwaizumi pressed, his voice tinged with concern."Oh, he says he never has time," Y/n replied, her voice barely above a whisper as she struggled to maintain her composure."That's not tr—" Iwaizumi began before catching himself mid-sentence."Wait, so, he's practically ditching you?" he questioned, his eyes narrowing in realization. In that moment, she realized the painful reality she had been avoiding: Oikawa was not the devoted partner she had once believed him to be, but a shadow of the man she thought she knew.
Y/n's voice hung in the air, weighted with resignation and a hint of sadness. "It's okay, I've been thinking about breaking up for a while," she shrugged, her voice tinged with uncertainty. Maybe, just maybe, this would bring him the happiness she couldn't provide.
As the ringing bell cut through their conversation, Iwaizumi's words hung in the air, unfinished and pregnant with unspoken implications. "Oh... well, maybe—" he began, but the sudden interruption halted his thoughts."Cya," Y/n waved at him, her smile strained yet somehow still captivating. Little did she know...Watching her walk away, Iwaizumi couldn't help but be struck by her beauty, despite the weariness etched into every line of her face. Her pale skin, tired eyes, and faint frown only seemed to enhance her grace, and in that moment, he saw her in a new light. How could Oikawa be so blind? He was letting go of someone truly special, and Iwaizumi knew what he had to do.
Y/n sat in her classroom, the weight of her thoughts pressing upon her like a heavy burden. Despite the lingering affection she held for him, she found herself surprisingly resolute for the first time in a while – determined to let go. Yet, amidst her resolve, one thought remained steadfast in her mind.
I wish I were heather.
