COVID sucks, we're all dying, but at least we've got social media.

This summer,

what a bummer,

it could've been funner.

LBI vibes turned to foggy times,

planned visits became lies,

summer sun transformed into winter cries.

Waking up at six is now waking up before the sky;

doing summer work was left to last minute "try";

scheduled camp is now scheduled zoom shy.

What most look forward to is going back to school;

no one cares to try and look cool;

uniform sweatpants and button downs with ties, a unique sort of tool.

We went from casual hangouts to fabric walls,

loving family to front yard calls,

a steady job to employment number falls.

Casual calls are looking like pointless drawls,

shopping trips, now online trawls,

comfy couches are making for anxious sprawls.

The CDC gave us six feet,

Trump had a meet and greet,

teens hosted parties with their friendly fleet.

Newsfeeds filled with #icantbreathe,

Snapchat stories whining about #icantleave,

Tik tok singing #homeboundrecipe.

Reality check,

police systems a wreck,

moral compass is a mere speck.

But people like us have learned to speak,

we're no longer weak,

remembering John Lewis walking over Edmund Pettus Bridge and hearing it creak.

Everyone looks to News 12 for the killing of the week,

government officials turn a corrupt cheek,

citizens call to them for promises they seek.

We're here for when they choose to attack,

we're listening for when they choose to enact,

we're looking for when they choose to cut the crap.

In the end, we're all a mess, but at least we have next year.
