PLEASE READ

This is the first draft of chapter one of this book which I wrote long ago but instead of using it as the first chapter, I decided to use it as an introduction. At first, I never wanted to add it to this book but I thought it might give you a little insight into Pierson's life and what made her go to a boarding school.

SOPHOMORE YEAR

The Time rushed by so fast, it was as if the big guy up there put the time on fast forward, so we could arrive at our destination quickly.

Mom sat in the front seat beside dad crying because her only child will be leaving while dad consoled her occasionally while keeping his focus on the road and not shedding a single drop of tears because according to him 'men don't cry,' but you could tell from his face that he is contemplating on changing his mind and turning the car back home.

We finally arrive at North view High, my new home, and dad finds a parking spot and pulls over. We all sit inside the car and nobody makes a move to leave the car so I use the opportunity to take a look at our surroundings.

Dad and I eventually get out of the car to get my luggage out, mom also steps out behind us still sniffing due to the tears she shed all the way here because she is a crybaby.

"I'm going to miss you, honey, the house is going to be so empty without you", She says almost bursting into tears again while pulling me in for a hug, we stay like that for a while before I pull away to hug my dad.

"Take care of mama dad", I say to him before pulling away.

"Yes I'll take care of her, you take care of yourself pumpkin", He replies and gives me a sad smile.

"Bye, I'll miss both of you", I say to them

They say goodbye and get into the car to start their journey home. I watch them leave the gate and keep waving till they are out of sight.

Hahaha just kidding!

I wish.

I wish that is how my parents reacted when I'm leaving for school.

I remember being the love of my parents while growing up, we always ate dinner together, traveled together, went on picnics together, celebrated birthdays together, and did everything together as a family.

One faithful day, dad didn't show up for dinner, he returned late from work, the next day he didn't show up for dinner, and then it became constant. He never showed up at the dining table and then he started traveling from one place to another on business trips alone.

Mom also started becoming distant. She always worked so hard; she leaves for work before I wake up and returns only after I've gone to bed. She changed a lot and never missed an opportunity to snap at me on the rare occasions she was at home.

One day during lunch I heard one of the girls at the table who isn't really my friend talk about her cousin who attends a boarding school and the idea seemed like a very good opportunity to escape from this lonely place I called home.

I was tired of waiting for things to go back to the way they used to be in my family and Lisa, my best friend, and her family were also relocating to Sweden after this school year.

Lisa's home was my second home, her family was my family and she was leaving. That was another reason I made up my mind to go to a boarding school maybe I would have a family there, we would eat dinner together, have fun together and maybe be there for each other.

I told my parents about my decision and fortunately, they agreed, that is why I'm sitting at the back of my mom's car looking at the trees through the window.

The ride to school is silent except for the country music playing in the background. Dad could not join us because according to him he has more important things to do, and mom decided to drop me off because she needed to bring her beloved car back home.

The time is going by slowly so I bring out my phone from my backpack and begin to scroll through Instagram. After spending what seemed like an hour I became tired and switched off my phone.

Different thoughts start running through my head; would the people there like me, will I be accepted? Are bullies there? Would my roommates be nice people? I begin to get anxious and antsy; bouncing my legs up and down.

"Can you stop doing that", mom snaps at me all of a sudden

"Doing what", I ask even when I know what she is referring to. I just wanted to annoy her a little, maybe it would help kill time.

"Bouncing your legs up and down you know what I'm talking about". She says

I ignore her and continue doing it; I might as well piss her off for the last time before leaving.

"Are you nervous?" I hear her ask or whatever she said sounded like that

"What did you just say", I ask her to be sure I heard correctly, she looks at me shortly through the mirror, and for a moment I think I see a flicker of emotion in her eyes like she is worried about me or it was my eyes playing tricks on me then it disappeared in a blink of an eye and she sent her gaze back to the road.

"Never mind", she says while focusing on the road.

The sun is beginning to go down when we arrive at the gates of North view high school, probably my new home. We get checked by security before they let us in. Mom finds a parking spot and pulls over.

We both sit in the car in silence staring at ourselves through the rearview mirror [I hope that's what it's called] tension hanging in the air; nobody makes a move to leave the car. She breaks the silence by unclasping her seatbelt while I quickly leave the car to get my luggage from the trunk. I begin to remove my luggage from the trunk while she remains in the car not stepping out to help me.

After getting my luggage out of the car which consisted of my big suitcase and my backpack, I sling my backpack over my shoulders and pull my suitcase backward. We stare at each other for a while, before she starts the car and pulls out of the parking space without saying goodbye. I watch her leave the gates and stop myself from tearing up. She hasn't been the best with me but I'm still going to miss her.

"Let's do this", I say to myself, I turn around and begin to walk towards the building.
