Suddenly, my heart thumping was the only thing I could hear. It gradually started to get louder, the more he continued to stare at me. His piercing blue eyes were boring into my face and I knew he was trying to find a crack in my façade.

I didn't let up, I wasn't going down without a fight. I didn't square my jaw or lift my chin up or narrow my eyes. In fact I kept my face exactly the same, I didn't shift my eyes, I didn't move my lips into a smirk, I didn't even blink!

What are you hiding Lilly?

I know what I'm trying to hide, the question is can you tell me what you know?

You know I'm bound by the law.

Well as far as I can see, you sent everyone out of the room so really, are you even breaking the law? I know I won't tell, will you?

For a full minute, we didn't say anything, it was as silent as still water until a loud buzzing on the glass desk up-roared our questioning stares.

Breaking out gazes, we both looked in the same direction, my phone had received a message. It was then I had become aware of my surroundings. How my hands had gotten a little clammy and my need to swallow was intensifying, and the rain that was becoming ever so resilient outside on the window. "Well Lilly..."

"Well what, Inspector I-?"

"Liam, please."

"Well what, Liam? I'm not in any condition to play games right now, I've received very distressing information about my aunt and -" I was rudely cut off by the Inspector smug voice.

"Listen, Lilly I was the Inspector assigned to your aunt's case. Naturally we had to find out who our Jane Doe was, so we found a diary on her, with her name and address. Quite old-fashioned but it helped anyway. Straight away we started looking into her family situation ruling out any suspects. So what I'm trying to say is that I know you didn't have the best relationship with your aunt and you weren't very close with her either." He said in a matter of fact tone.

Ooh, I both hated and loved that tone.

"You think I'm a suspect?!" I exclaimed.

"Not necessarily, I haven't the slightest evidence on you, so your safe, for now."

Scrunching my nose, my eyes softened from the accusing glare and I closed my eyes briefly, as I grinned biting my lip. "Okay, okay, how obvious was I?"

"Well, for one you started that pathetic act of, what did you say, oh yes! 'Distressing information'-"I rolled my eyes, alright so not one of my best performances. "And then previously before that, you were glowering at me and not backing down, in which I must assume you aren't too broken up about the news because you knew already; whether it's because you killed her or because you didn't but proceeded to find out anyway!-" He took a tantalizing step forward. "-I know you were the last call she made that night. We found no phone but calling up the network to find your name was the last one she called... well, it doesn't bar much hope does it?-"

He smirked and took another step forward, I lifted my eyes to meet him with an unwavering stare. I wasn't going to admit or deny anything, I'm much too smart for that. I could just push him and make a run for it! But that would be worse that admitting anything that comes out of his big, smug mouth. Let's call that one plan B.

"-So Lilly, are you going to tell me what you know, or am I going to have to forcefully take you on suspicion of withholding information on a murder investigation! It's your choice."

How could he just stand there so nonchalant while he threatens to throw me in prison. Well, lying and going to prison will just make everything worse, not to mention I have to search my aunt's house. But I can't be an idiot and tell him everything I know, like those dumbasses in those detective shows who end up botching everything up anyway. No, I have to be selective, if he doesn't ask something specific that I definitely know, I just won't tell him, and then I could spout that bullshit that people always say, 'I didn't think it was relevant to the investigation sir!' Like what utter crap, that's just another phrase for withholding information that I was more interested in telling other people for gossip rather than tell you.

"Okay, yes she called me!"

He took out his book and and held pen above paper, "And what did she say?"

"She said to meet her up on the roof of my apartment building, She didn't like me being tardy so I was quick to get to the top, but she wasn't there."

"No, she wasn't. She was in fact on the building directly opposite yours, presumably on the roof, as you've just told me."

"Well, even though she wasn't there, I waited just in case, I thought maybe she was taking her time on the stairs, knowing sometimes how tardy I can be she called me in advance but then as I was waiting for her, I think I saw the murder. I saw the person being pushed off. At that time, I didn't really put two and two together and think it was my aunt but-"

"She was pushed, you say, she didn't fall."

"Yes she was pushed! And it's rude to interrupt-"

"Well do you know who pushed her, what they look like, any details?!"

"Stop that!-" I glared at him. Now he was interested in hearing what I had to say, "Well, no. It was too dark, I mean it was almost midnight! But the person who pushed her looked straight in my direction, like they knew I was there. But they turned away. Now my theory is that they knew I was there and are planning on killing me later, or I was in a blind spot and they never saw me." I raised my eyebrow, moving my hands about to further enunciate my theory but he just stared intensely at his book as he scribbled down what I had just revealed, until his pen abruptly stopped.

"Well your theory could be right Lilly, but you missed out one other possibility..."

I raised my arm and gestured to the air, "Well don't keep me waiting please share what I've missed."

"...They could have seen you-"

"Which is what I said,-"

"-Or they could've seen their opportunity to plant the murder, on you!"

Thank you, for reading this chapter, I haven't been updating everyday as my college work has intensified, but I will try my best to keep writing here and there to carry on the book. It is a lot easier to write when you actually have a plan with where the book is heading unlike last time.

Please comment and like if you enjoyed this chapter! x
