By midnight I had forgotten the few girls' names and sat on the damp grass of Rilee's backyard. surrounded by a completely different group of people, chatting and laughing with them.

I chugged the last of my beer and threw the empty bottle on the ground, toppling to the kitchen for another.

"How many have you had Jordan?" a boy's voice asked reprovingly, as he grabbed my arm pulling me towards him.

His minty breath hit my nose, a refreshing smell from the alcohol, I thought. I looked up at his messy, black hair and dark brown eyes, shrugging my shoulders honestly.

I recognised him as Carter, one of the boys who was standing with Rilee earlier. for some reason I didn't know, I didn't like him.

Suddenly I was hoisted away from the boy and ended up with my face only inches away from red lips and a pair of dark green eyes.

"Hi Ry, Ry," I spoke, cupping her cheeks in my hands.

"Hi," she muttered, almost angrily, "why were you talking to him?"

"Why do you care?" I asked teasingly.

Rilee's skin was hot under my hands and her breath smelt of beer, her eyes looked up at me as she gently placed her cold hands on mine.

Suddenly, I felt as if the alcohol in my system had been completely soaked up and I was stone cold sober. We locked eyes just like the first time I had seen her, that had felt like forever ago. The hair on the back of my neck stood up and I prayed she didn't notice the goosebumps rapidly forming on my skin, a warm feeling twisted in my stomach, a feeling I hadn't had for what felt like years.

"You know why."

At that moment, as I looked deep into her green eyes, I knew.
