~Brooklyn's P.O.V~
Body dysmorphic disorder (also known as BDD, body dysmorphia, dysmorphic syndrome; originally dysmorphophobia) is a type of mental illness, a disorder, wherein the affected person is concerned with body image, manifested as excessive concern about and preoccupation with a perceived defect of their physical features. The person thinks they have a defect in either one feature or several features of their body, which causes psychological distress.
Hi, my name is Brooklyn Cowell, daughter of Simon himself. My parents had a summer fling, landing in my mum being pregnant with me. Simon's business in the music industry grew over the years, and he became too busy and couldn't look after our family. When I was 5, they made the decision to split, but it was very civil compared to other divorces. Mum got custody over me, and Simon paid his child support, giving us extra money when we needed it. He helped us through the bad times, and thanks to him, were in a good financial position. Mum and I live in California, soaking up as much sun as we can. Although she isn't home as much as she used to be anymore. One year when I was 15, she bought home this man, who she almost married. He was an alcoholic and abusive, but she claimed she 'loved' him and that's when my live changed. I started to begin the words he called me 'fat, whore, ugly, pathetic' and over the year, I developed BDD. But it started a lot earlier than the age of 15. In grade 7, I was always called names, but I was somehow in the popular group. I'm not happy with how I look, but apparently im a 'beauty', I just pretend and go along with it.
I had just turned 18 last week, resulting in one of the biggest parties in California. I was your typical California girl, blonde hair, blue eyes, tanned 365 days of the year. Most people think us girls are sluts or are very snobby, but infact, most of the girls here have the best personality. There's the occasional few that fit the stereotype. I spent most of my days at the beach or shopping with my best friend Abigail. She's quiet the beauty herself. She has a darker skin shade then me, brown eyes and very light brown hair. The one thing we absolutely loved to do, was go to parties. We weren't exactly good girls.
"Brooklyn, hurry up. The beach will be packed by the time we get there" Abigail whined, banging on my ensuite door. Sighing, I pulled a white flowy top and denim shorts over my leopard print bikini, unlocking the door and walking over to my closet to grab my sandals.
"Let's go then" I mumbled, grabbing my handbag, with my towel along the way.
I heard groaning, my head snapping in the direction of my bestfriend.
"Told you it was going to be busy" She grumbled, throwing her bag over her shoulder and pushing through the crowd to find a spot. It was an ab-normally hot day, so of course it was going to be busy.
"Abi, wait up!" I yelled, trying my best to run the the crowd and hot sand. I finally caught up, to see she had layed her towel down and was stripping off her clothes, sitting down in her bikini. I followed her actions, slipping my sunglasses over my eyes, laying down and resting my eyes. What felt like moments later, a shade cast over the sun, making my eyes snap open to see a smiling boy staring down at me.
"Can I help you?" I snapped, pulling myself up from my position. He was cute, not my type, but definitely cute.
"Yes! I mean, hey" He stumbled on his words, trying to act as cool as possible. Giggling slightly, I raised an eyebrow at him. Sighing, he ran a hand through his dirty blonde hair.
"Right well, my friends dared me to come get your number" A nervous laugh escaped his lips, causing Abigail to let out a laugh beside me.
"Sorry sweetie, I don't give out my number to strangers" I stated, sliding my glasses back on and ignoring him and he hopelessly attempted to retrieve my number. He left not long after resulting in Abi and I to burst out into fits of laughter.
