"Get your ass down here for Dinerrrrr"! Mum called out almost yelling.
"Dinner"?
"Am I hungry'?
"Could I be hungry"?
"I don't feel hungry, guess the excitement tomorrow would hopefully bring already filled my need for food"
I snorted. But mum won't keep calm if I don't get my ass down there ( I chuckled as I repeated in her own words) to take a bite of whatever is served. I murmured as I reached for the door knob and tilted it open and in seconds, I was seated calmly, grinning from ear to ear, until Dad interrupted and asked that I should help mum in the kitchen.
I shrugged and staggered towards the kitchen direction.
The instant mum saw me, she asked me to call Jasmine and Joshua who were still outside.
As soon as they heard advancing footsteps, they both ran as fast as their legs could carry them and made use of the supposed exit for entrance into the house.
I chuckled because I know they thought it was mum who came after them, they would be disappointed and as well shocked to the marrows to sneak inside to see that our Parents were waiting for them.
The thought of that alone made me laugh so hard."You really think you are smart, don't you"?
Mum spat out as she caught a glance of them mellowing down and trying to maneuver her sharp eyes that was tightly fixed at the door after she was done with setting dinner trying sneak away to their respective rooms to have a quick shower and change into something else and pretend they've been indoors all day studying."Oh, what's that look in your faces"?
"Ok, so because I severed your intentions, I should apologize right"?
Mum asked with piercing eyes demanding an answer.
"No, not at all mum"
They chorused.
"Now I give you 5 minutes to go in there, clean up and be down here for dinner". Mum ordered.
"Yes mum".
They replied in unison as they both raced upstairs.
My lips twitched to form a broad smile that could be mistaken for laughter as I watched from a safe distance.I quickly followed mum and sat quietly and mum assumed her uncommon position at the edge, right opposite where Dad sat.
I figured out Something's is definitely off the line.
That is usually the norm when Dad and Mum weren't in good terms.
I've known my parents as the best couple, I've seen them lovey dovey all days of my life, and they've seemed to be in an unending honey moon.
They behaved like newly wedded everyday, but no matter how they try to conceal their misunderstanding, seeing mum sit opposite Dad only confirms my assumptions that something is wrong.
Dad was quite apprehensive of what could have resulted to the look on his wife's face.
He further concluded it might just be one of her mood swings, but she isn't on her period or does she flow every blessed day in Earth?.
Joshua and Jasmine were really quick as instructed, they sat opposite me.
Jasmine said the prayer and we all reached out for our meal in turns by ourselves.
Ordinarily, mum usually takes care of that, but, today isn't just one of her best days.
Mum's the best cook ever, and Jellof rice is yet another wonderful meal of her wild variety of knowledge in cooking tasteful meals.
I savoured every spoonful and though they were my last.
Dad on the other side nodded at intervals
as though he were listening to one of his favorite song, understanding every lyric.Joshua and Jasmine chewed aggressively and constituted noise with their clanging cutleries after shoving more than they can comfortably chew into their mouth yet reaching for another loaded spoonful heap of rice.
Mum on the other hand was simply picking her food ,she seemed worried and at the same time didn't want to speak .
If she did ,she would have thrown an auspicious question as to why everyone else was enjoying the evening aside her and upon we asking what the problem is , she would spill it.
"Whatever it is mum I just hope you will be okay by morning.
I muttered under my breathe.
Dinner was over, I took it as duty to clear and wash the dishes without being ordered, to avoid mum's wrath, at least, for that night to pass by.
We gathered once again for our general night prayer after which we finally retired to bed.
