Police sirens.... police sirens everywhere as a multitude of blinding red and blue flashes bleached the graffitied, grimy brick walls. A gasp... a cry... a sigh of relief as arms are thrown around a waist and pair of shoulders in relief. Fluffy, pale brown hair clashes with messy and long beige hair as sobs ring out through the echoing alley of darkness. Their shivering and pressed forms accentuated by those damned blinding lights. Red... blue... red... blue. Walkie talkies can be heard, buzzing sounds and two pairs of ears started to ring. One figure pulled away, her pale azure eyes dark and the skin underneath her eyes bagged into dark circles. Her messy hair almost reached to her waist, the humidity in the air making the tangled locks hug around her nimble form. Another figure pulled away, her small form shuddering from the cold. Her own baby blue eyes surrounded by her red scleras and swollen lids. Both faces were freshly slicked with sticky trails of tears and mucus as they sniffled and sobbed uncontrollably. Their eyes blinked and their vision darkened as their ears rang. Red.... blue.... red.... blue... red. Everything kept fading in and out, and two figures in black uniforms approached the weak, tiny, and ever so helpless females. A pen was pulled out, a notepad, uncaring voices trying to soften themselves so some trace of compassion was found within them as they spoke to the frightened girls. So many questions.... too many questions that they didn't want to answer. They just wanted to go home, but now they didn't have a place to run into and find a group of their loved ones waiting with open arms. They just wanted to be hugged, they wanted to feel tenderness and compassion, they wanted their hair and heads to be stroked as someone reassured them that everything was okay. But all they could hear were the same damn questions, over and over and over again. Weak legs wobbled as the petite girls continued to sob and whimper, their hair messy and fluffy nests and their eyes merely voids of neverending fear and paranoia. Finally, they felt blankets being wrapped around their shuddering forms, and they seemed to melt into the warm and soft surface. They felt as if their parents were snuggling them into bed, wrapping them in a tender and affectionate hug as kisses were planted on their foreheads and soothing tunes were hummed to them. They almost felt themselves drift off, but then snapping fingers and loud voices emerged. Once again, their pupils were drowned with the same colors... red.... blue... red.... blue.
"Are you girls okay? If you two don't mind, we really need you to answer some questions, do you think you can do that?"
An unfamiliar female voice rang through their ears and their minds, causing the blonde girl to blink in disorientation. The petite blonde stared blankly at the officer before her, while in the distance, the small pale brown haired girl merely sniffled and buried herself into her blanket, snuggling deep into the warm, comforting sheets.
"Yeah.. Yeah sure we're fine," The sandy haired girl finally answered, though her voice held no emotion and she wiped away a slew of tears from her eyes and mucus from her nose.
"Mkay, we'll make this quick and then send you over to the hospital for a quick check up. Everything will be fine. Do you have any sort of family you can contact?" The officer asked, pursing her lips as she seemed impatient, tapping her foot on the grimy concrete. Those red and blue lights shone behind her, making it much harder to stare directly at her form.
"No... they.... he.... t-they killed my... m-my... dad," The blonde choked out, finding herself gasping and spluttering once more at the thought.
"Oh, I'm so sorry about that, do you think you have any other family to contact sweetheart?" The officer crouched ever so slightly to her level, temporarily putting on a facade of sympathy and sweetness.
The sandy haired girl felt degraded, she wanted to yell and scream and thrash out. She wanted to forget this whole experience and go somewhere safe. She wanted her life back, she wanted her friends and family back, she wanted her school back, she wanted everything back but this. She finally found herself thinking over the question, thinking over everything. What would they do if they found out she was back where she used to be? And even worse, with her dear adoptive mother, who they would surely target next. She thought over this question... heart pounding... head throbbing... eyes watering... ears ringing... hands clammy... mind-
"Sweetie? Dear you need to answer the question," The officer interrupted her frantic and muddled thoughts.
Finally, the girl dared look the officer in the eyes, her expression as hard and blank as stone, "No. I don't."
"Are you sure? If that's the case you'll need to be sent to foster care since you are still a minor. You can be emancipated in two years, otherwise I'm afraid there's no other option," The officer explained.
"No... n-no! I... I have family.... She.. S-she's my cousin.." The blonde pointed towards the petite, pale brown haired girl, who was shivering into her blanket, curled up on a bench as she waited for her own round of interrogation.
"Really?" The officer hooked her brow up, a doubtful frown overcoming her features.
"Y-Yes.. Yes she is," The girl finally stated with confidence, staring down the officer before her.
"If you say so, I'll go speak with her and confirm. But keep in mind you both are minors and this really doesn't change anything," The officer said dismissively with a sigh, before leaving the girl to her own devices. The petite blonde looked after her in panic, hoping her ruse would somehow prove effective.
Meanwhile, round and baby blue eyes stared at the ground, tears still trickling down along her cheeks. The female pushed herself further into the blanket, nausea rising as her body felt hot and her head pounded. She held back a gag, before becoming startled by a presence in front of her.
"Hi sweetie, I need to talk with you okay?" The officer slightly knelt down to her level, before giving her a small smile, "Do you think you're feeling up to it?"
The girl wanted to answer no, she didn't want to think about her situation any longer. She felt more nauseous and dizzy everytime she thought about her current position. Her innocent eyes watered once more, before she ever so slightly looked up at the officer.
    "Y-Yes.."
"Good, first things first, I need you to confirm something okay? Is that girl over there a cousin of yours?" The female officer motioned towards the blonde, who was frantically nodding and signaling at the girl.
She raised an eyebrow in mere confusion, before turning back towards the officer, "U-Um.. yes?" She offered with the hint of an awkward grin.
"Are you sure? You seem confused and unsure," The officer pursed her lips, her hands planting themselves on her hips as she looked down upon the shivering female.
"Umm.." She ever so slightly looked back towards the blonde, who was still signaling for her to say.. Yes? The pale brown haired girl was unsure, but she gave the officer a shaky, innocent smile and nodded her head in an assured manner, "Yes... y-yes she is."
"Alright then, that makes things a little easier I guess," The officer sighed, scribbling down some notes on a piece of paper before she tucked it away, "Now, before I let you go to the hospital... is there any other family you have?"
The girl considered it for a moment, but instead started reminiscing over something. She remembered the desperate hold she held on her mother as she disappeared into a strange void of darkness. Three figures followed.... her sisters.... where did they all go? Feeling as if she would vomit and break down at the thought, the girl decided to just shake her head.
"Alright then... well they are going to take you to get checked up. Once you are well enough to speak and think more again, we'll do some more questioning," The officer explained, before she stood and went to converse with a group of cops nearby.
The female nodded her head, melting further and further into the comforting touch of her blanket. The officer motioned some medics and other cops over, and a huddle of them conversed in low and hushed murmurs. Both the girls felt many pairs of eyes on them just... watching. They hated the feeling, they felt as if they were naked in front of everyone... they felt vulnerable. The blonde felt herself grumbling and wincing all at the same time as she observed the bystanders curiously gazing on. The brown haired girl hid her face amongst the softness of her given comforter, trying to ignore the glued on gazes. It all felt so familiar.... So much watching.... So much vulnerability..... It felt like they were trapped again with nowhere to hide. The blonde spluttered out some rare sobs, the last of her tough outer shell cracking open. The petite brown haired girl cried into her blanket, letting the surface absorb the sticky mixture of tears and mucus. Medics approached them, softly beckoning for them to stand. They didn't want to go... who knows where they would go. They wanted to be somewhere familiar again.... somewhere safe..... somewhere warm... somewhere with people they knew and loved. But now, they felt arms sling over their shoulders as they were being hoisted and gently led away to those god forsaken ambulances with the flashing lights and sirens. Both pairs of eyes had darkness shrouding their vision, their bodies shaking more violently than before. They felt their forms weaken, their knees shake and wobble, their hearts and heads pounding more than ever before. And the last thing they could see?
    Red...... blue...... red...

Blue.
