As we sat across from each other with our food, I decided to try to get to know him a little better. Besides, maybe he could end up being my only friend.
"Hey Victor, why did you move to this school?" I asked.
"It was for my Dad's work. He owns a fish company so we decided to move here to get better sales."
"Woah...he owns a company?"
"Yep," he said modestly. He's probably rich, I thought. No wonder he's at this private school.
"Do you live near here?" I added.
"Yeah, pretty close actually, walking distance away."
"Oh, same!" When we finished our lunches we continued to chat throughout each of our classes. We actually started to get close fairly quickly and we realized that we had much in common. When we reached the end of the day however, we had to go our separate ways for the one class we didn't share. "I guess I'll see you tomorrow. It was nice meeting you!"
"It was nice meeting you too! Bye," he waved then disappeared down the hallway. I couldn't help but feel a bit down without his company. I'd almost forgot what it was like to walk alone. When I got through my last class, I was the last person to walk out the door because I was finishing up an assignment. As I walked further down the hallway I started to hear quiet music coming from the door ahead of me. As I came closer I realized it was the piano in the orchestra room. My curiosity took the best of me and I peeked through the window. It was quite dark inside but I recognized that lanky frame and slick dark hair, it was Victor. I opened the door quietly to keep from disturbing him. His playing was beautiful and every note was perfect. I watched as his hands jumped skillfully from key to key. The moment he sensed my presence however, he turned around and gasped. He jumped from the stool and in doing so, he knocked it over and fell to the ground.
"Oh, it's just you," he said in relief. I giggled and helped him up. As he brushed off his uniform, I asked,
"What were you playing? It was really good."
"Uh, I m-made it myself actually."
"Oh really?" I said impressed.
"Should I continue?" he asked.
"Of course!" He then pulled the stool back up and took a seat. He patted the stool to signal me to sit next to him, so I did. Then he placed his long fingers on the keys and played a soft melody. When he paused for a second I repeated the same notes. His eyes widened and he played a harder tune. I then repeated the same thing with a little more flair.
"You play the piano?" he asked excitedly.
"I've had a few lessons." Then I started to play again and he joined in. We played in unison, and as the song progressed I began to feel a weird sensation in my body. It feels like passion, contentment and...desire? As the song ended in harmony I turned towards Victor. "You're really talented you know."
"So are you," he beamed. We stared at eachother for a moment then he began to lean in. But before he could get any closer the door burst open.
"You guys sound good, but school's over, it's time for you to leave," a random teacher exclaimed. We stood up quickly.
"Oh yeah! Sorry! I didn't realize the time!"
"M-me neither!"
"Hurry up if you want to catch the bus," the man warned.
"No it's fine, I ride my bike back home."
"I walk," Victor added. The teacher then opened the door for us until we left. As I walked with Victor out of the building I asked,
"Hey, wanna walk with me back home?" Victor paused and smiled,
"Why not?"
