-it is a transposition cipher
-it uses a random number schemeSo first is we are going to choose a number of columns. Next is we are going to write the plaintext beneath each column going from left to right alternating between writing one or two plaintext letters into each successive column.
We are going to put numbers in each column. Using a random number scheme. In my example, the number scheme that I'm going to use is 24531EXAMPLE:
(In this example I am going to use 5 columns)PLAINTEXT: The only thing harder than letting go is moving on
NS: 245312 4 5 3 1
t he o nl y
th i ng h ar
d er t ha n
le t ti n gg
o is m ov i
ng o n-Write the ciphertext by going down each numbered column in order
Ciphertext: YARNG GITTH DLEON GNLHH ANOVH EIERT ISOON GTTIM N
-The ciphertext is written in order from which column they belong. If we look at the table, the letters YARNGGI are in column number 1. That's why I wrote those letters first.
